.Could there be a link between removal of an ovary and constipation, bloating and feeling the bowel is never completely empty? Are there any possible medical suggestions other than laxatives and diet that could reduce symptoms?

morgAny type of abdominal surgery, such as removal of the ovary, would predispose you to adhesions - which can lead to an obstruction and subsequently constipation. You may want to consider an abdominal CT scan to evaluate for this possibility.

If negative, an endoscopy - such as a colonoscopy - can be considered for further evaluation. These tests can look for any anatomical abnormalities that can cause the symptoms.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

.I had a tubal ligation performed 4 years ago. While my gynecologist was performing the procedure, he found endometrial tissue growing on my uterus, bladder and other areas. Apparently, it was not severe. He did cauterize the tissue.

I have not had bowel movement problems much until the last few days. I typically eat enough fiber (thanks, Fiber One). For a year or so, I've jokingly called myself "air colon" as I seem to have a LOT of air discharging from my posterior when I empty my bowels. It's actually quite embarassing if it happens when I'm in a public restroom.

And I've also noticed over the last 8-12 weeks, quite a bit more mucous discharge in my stools when I evacuate my bowels. At first the mucous was clear/white. It's become tan to yellow/amber in color the last week or so. It's just the last few days that my stools are pellet-like and sometimes narrow.

I've noticed some mild discomfort in my abdominal region. I do feel like I've got to go frequently and when I do use the bathroom to urinate, I almost always empty something out of my bowels--at least mucous. And there is a little blood in the last few days as well, but I think this could be coming from the area around the exterior of the anus as I have had some inflammation there.

What type of problem could this be? I realize that I will still need to make a visit to my internist. I just would like to have some clue as to what this could be. If it matters, I'm 39 years old and in relatively good health although I could stand to lose a few pounds.
