My mom is 47 and just had her annual mammogram. It took nearly an hour before she finally came out to the waiting room. Needless to say, since it took so long, I was really getting worried.
The radiologist found a solid mass in her right breast. He is 99% sure it is a fibroadenoma (a benign tumor). He says it has all the characteristics, PLUS my mom is very healthy and has no history of breast cancer in the family. He said it shows up as a solid BLACK mass on the ultrasound.
Just to make sure, the radiologist wants her to return on October 21 for a needle biopsy.
I have been doing a bunch of research on the internet about these things. Sounds like they are most common in women in their late teens-20s, which has me concerned.
Has anyone here been diagnosed with a fibroadenoma? Anyone in their 40s? Just wondering.
I'm a worrier anyways, so I'm really concerned.
Please keep her in your prayers. Thanks...
