should I??

Sunday night at 9pm i took 2oz. Of castor oil. Then at 9:30pm i took 2oz. Of castor oil. Total of 4oz. At about 12:30 my contractions started they were 1min. 30sec apart lasting about 1min. 30sec. At around 3:30am i went into L&D i was 1cm and 50% effaced. They checked me around 5am and i was 2cm 70% effaced. Then at 8am i was 3cm. And 70% effaced. So they told me i was in active labor.. Then around 4pm my contractions stopped and i didn't make no progress. Im stuck at 3cm. So they sent me home.

Should I try the castor oil again?

I don't want you to feel like I was being mean or rude to you, it's always better to be informed because its a legitimate complication that many pregnancies have and a newborn with pneumonia from swallowing meconium can even be fatal

I understand. Thank you for the advice I will bring it up to my midwife probably a miscommunication. But I always like to be informed. I am sorry if I misinformed anyone else.

Meconium is normally stored in the infant's bowel until after birth, but sometimes it is expelled into the amniotic fluid (also called "amniotic liquor") prior to birth or during labor and delivery. The stained amniotic fluid (called "meconium liquor" or "meconium stained liquor") is recognised by medical staff as a sign of fetal distress, and puts the neonate at risk of meconium aspiration. Medical staff may aspirate the meconium from the nose and mouth of a newborn immediately after delivery in the event the baby shows signs of respiratory distress to decrease the risk of meconium aspiration syndrome.

I'm not trying to be rude I was just know that it can be very life threatening

I'm not saying you are telling her whether its safe or unsafe but your midwife is wrong a bowel movement inutero is very unsafe because if breathed in/ swallowed it can cause breathing problems and infection

My midwife said that it is passed in the womb or its secreated after birth???? So I heard it from my doc. I never said I approved of castor oil but whether or not I tell her its safe or unsafe its her decision to take the oil. All Iam saying is be ccareful about howuch you take!!!

Um glorianna I'm not sure where you heard that but it's not true, a baby having a bowel movement while inside is seriously dangerous, it's called meconium and if they do have one and swallow it it can cause a lot of complications especially with their lungs, that's why when they break your water they check to make sure the baby didn't have a bowel movement so yes castor oil can be very unsafe because it can cause the baby to have a bowel movement

I sure am reading a lot about how mommas want to make the babies come early!!! Just be patient... I know your probably miserable just kick back and relax. I am going on 38weeks and I am ready to meet my little man but inducing labor when your body isn't doing it on its own actually has a higher chance of leading to c section and fetal distress. Be careful sweetheart. And the whole baby pooping inside of you is not harmful they take their first bowel movements around 38 weeks and it is normally delivered when you have thrm.

Castor oil maybe forcing baby on when he/she is not ready. Your contractions could have stopped because you are making yourself go into labour as opposed to having it happen naturally. It is known to cause distress in baby but unless you are being monitored you cant tell this. Personally i wouldnt try castor oil because id worry its affecting baby but each to their own. I heard you just need to take a tea spoon and 4oz sounds scary lol You could try naturally bringing on labour, try spicy curry, sex, relaxing and walking. If baby is ready they will make an appearance soon but best of luck and i wish you a safe delivery x

Try cumin tea, you boil cumin seed in water for 30 minutes get the seeds out let it cool and drink, I did it and in 2 hrs I went from 0% effacing & 0% dialated then got to the hospital I was 50% effaced and a finger dialated.

Castor oil is unsafe, I wouldn't recommend taking it twice. You got lucky the first time. Take a warm bath and intimacy. Those two I've heard work best.

I don't think you should, you'll end up stressing your baby out. Maybe try sex, walking and nipple stimulation?

It can have bad effects and you definitely arent supposed to try more than 4oz so I wouldn't if I were you but it's really your perrogative

Actually it can cause the baby to have a bowel movement in utero and cause problems for the baby...so yeah it is unsafe. There's a reason doctors dont suggest it. Not trying to sound harsh but it gets annoying when women do unsafe things just because they're tired of being pregnant.
