Is your face symmetrical? Cranial nerve testing question

When I had my physical last week, my GP noted in my file that one cheek puffed out more than the other during the puffing cheek neuro part of the exam. I read up a little bit about that and found that it pertains to cranial nerve 7. Lesion could be near that nerve. The same side corner of my mouth doesn't go up as high either.

Have any of you had a similar issue?

Hi Sidesteps!
My right eye and right corner of my mouth also seem to droop a bit.  Nothing major but I actually started noticing my right eye drooping about 3 years ago.

I thought to myself that maybe it was a little stroke and never mentioned anything to my doctor.

I didn't mention several issues in fear that they would want to run expensive tests and come up with something scary.  I know it's not the right attitude to have but, it was what I felt for a long time.

Now I want answers and am still scared but I do want to know what's going on with my body.

I hope I get some answers on Monday or Tuesday.  Only 3 or 4 days to go before I get those results.

Sandy

Hi Sandy --- glad to hear you had your LP. Try to not put a ton of weight into it diagnosing you with MS.  In the earlier stages it is not uncommon for it to be negative. Mine is negative but I am CDMS....BUT the good news is my LP was negative for everything else too! I found a lot of peace in knowing that. I was very worried about cancer.

Yes. I have some issues with right sided facial weakness. It shows in my eyes, cheek and mouth.  I thought at one point I had a mild case of bells palsy but I think there is a lesion that managed to spread across a couple cranial nerves because I also had atypical TN that started at the same time. It has improved as time moves on. I am hoping if we can get my flares under control then this will continue to improve.

It is very troubling to "see" how tired and sick I look sometimes. :( My MS Specialist has indicated that getting a lot of rest will help this; so I try to make sure I get about 8 to 9 hours of sleep. It does seem to help.

I just had a lumbar puncture and blood work done on Tuesday to check for MS, Lyme, and a bunch of other stuff.  I should get those results in several days.  Early next week.  I don't get skin rashes though and my MRI shows the lesions in the periventricular area which I read is not like Lyme disease.  I guess I will find out soon.

I know something really bizarre.

Just as I got sick i had to have photographs done (Passport and blue badge, and new driving licence).

Everytime I had a photo done my left eye was always drooping it looked weird. I still have the photos.

It isnt so bad now. I have no idea why my eye did this.

Lyme is well known to infect the 7th cranial nerve and to mimic MS.  Have you been tested for it yet?

Sandy,
Very interesting! I will have to go observe my face etc. in the mirror.
I will let you know if anything looks odd/uneven.:)
Thanks for the info.

Tammy:)
