Extrasystoles when falling asleep

I've been suffering for 6 months of extrasystoles that come everytime I'm falling asleep after the first wakeup during the night. Of course this makes me impossibile to sleep for the rest of the night.
Sometimes I experience this in a more intense way, sometimes it doesn't occur.

What could be the cause?
I noticed last time a very slightly pain at the stomach. May it be stomach reflux? But in that case is it possible that the extrasystoles occur only during the falling asleep moment?

And what happen exactly during the falling asleep that trigger ectopic beats? My sensation is that the heart is slowing down in that moment and this triggers the extra, but I wish to find info about that.

Thank you so much in advance.
Andrea

Hi, sorry, I thought this answer was going  to a different poster.

Anyway, I have them more when I lie down as well, especially if I have had a snack or drank some water. Do you have a hiatal hernia, that can sometimes cause the extra-systols when falling asleep as the diaphragm is pressing against the cardiac reflex muscle. Also, the vagus nerve can cause this. Stomach pain can most assuredly cause heart skips as well.  It might be a wise idea to check with your GP, he/she might refer you to cardiologist and recommend wearing a holter monitor for a day or a week. That way, you would know what is going on better.

Thank you for the kindness of responding my help request and having shared your experience.
I don't know if I have some hernias, I guess I don't because I don't have any sympthoms of that. You named the vagus nerve.. that could be.. because not only I have this skips but also sometimes palpitation, accelerated rythm or even sometimes I have kind of tingling (sudden and very intense) on feet and hands or other part of the body. It sounds like my nerve system is going crazy when it happens.

Plus, during the day I have this breathlessness sensation, but it seems more than a sensation because sometimes when I speak a lot, I sense lack of oxygen becoming dizzy. Everything seems to be linked but I don't really know why. It could be distress, but all this started in a very good and calm period of my life. So, I still don't know.
Luckily right now I'm haveing breathlessness but my hearth is one week that doesn't skip. As always I'm having good and bad weeks with this hearth and I can't figure out on what it depends.

Hi, I just saw this. You sound so similar to me. I have those issues as well, they scare the bejeebers out of me. I have discovered that the more I worry and think about them, the worse they become and come more often. I also don't drink enough water, dehydration can cause them too. I have a hiatal hernia, that definitely can be a catalyst for the skips from hell.

It looks like you had all the right tests and they were "normal" I go to the ER all the time and the test are "normal" too. I have to learn to believe and trust the doctor, I think that will help you as well. I know how scary they are, believe me, I have had mince since I was in my late 30's, I am now 66, so I am still here, they haven't killed me yet.

I hope that by now you are doing better and skip free.
