Food allergies, in a way, are like a mean prank that nature played on humanity, because certain people don't get to enjoy some of the best, most common foods on Earth. Even though more than 160 varieties of food can cause allergic reactions, 8 foods account for 90 percent of all allergic reactions involving food. In 2004, Congress passed the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act, which made it mandatory for all foods regulated by the FDA to identify the source of ingredients that are derived from any of these eight foods.
