Someone with prediabetes has higher levels of glucose in the bloodstream than normal, but the levels aren’t yet high enough to be classified as type 2 diabetes.
While prediabetes doesn’t carry the same health risks as full-blown diabetes, it almost always develops into type 2 diabetes if left untreated. People with prediabetes also have a 50 percent higher risk for heart disease and stroke than people with normal blood sugar levels.
