Boost Endurance with Music

Rating

Pump up the jams while you pump iron

Resolve to rock out more. High-energy music can encourage you to get up and get moving. That’s because when you’re listening to a good song, you have a natural desire to move with synchronous sounds (e.g., tapping your toe in time with music or the beat of a drum). What good pop song doesn't make you want to bop your head just a little?

What’s more, listening to your favorite jams during exercise can reduce the perception of effort significantly (which may make your workout more enjoyable) and increase endurance by 15%, says Costas Karageorghis, Ph.D., from London’s Brunel University School of Sport and Education, in a study conducted by the American Council on Exercise.

So put those headphones on and let the music play while you work out!
