My cataract surgery -- right eye

May 05, 2011 - 1 comments

I'm going to attempt to consolidate all of my journal entries from now on, as it gets rather cumbersome to be posting separate entires.

My left eye has continued to improve after my last LRI.  It's not perfect, but I've been able to read with that eye in good light and have been able to do my computer work without a lot of difficulty and without readers.

Yesterday morning, May 4, I went ahead with cataract surgery on my right eye.  I received an Acrysof ReSTOR IQ model SN6AD1, 16D +3.0 Add   My right eye is a little shorter than my left and thus requires a lightly higher power to get me to plano.

Surgery went extremely well, and I have experienced very minimal discomfort -- hardly any scratchy feeling this time, even though I had LRI in addition to phacoemulsification and new IOL implantation.  I had a foreign body sensation for most of the day today, but it is now quickly subsiding as I write this during the evening of May 5.

Distance vision in my right eye is already very good.  IOL is centered perfectly, according to Dr. B.  I can't believe how much better I'm seeing with binocular vision!.  Vision is much better following this surgery than it was immediately following my left eye surgery.  Part of it, I think, is that my pre-op corneal astigmatism in my right eye is considrably less.  Total pre-op astigmatism was about the same as it was in my left eye, but the majority of the astigmatism in my right was lenticular.

During my post-op visit this morning, Dr. B. was not entirely satisfied that my acuity hasn't yet reached the 20/20 level on the Snellen.  He believes that once again I am slightly farsighted post-op.  However, he thinks this will dissipate as the capsular bag beins to adhere to the IOL and push it forward.  That notwithstanding, I must say I'm extremely satisfied thus far!  I hope it stays that way.  Distance vision was very good this morning (20/25) and during the day today it seemed to improve, and my near and intermediate vision improved dramatically over the way it was yesterday immediately post-op  This morning my IOP in the right eye was 32 and I was given an eyedrop to reduce the pressure.  I had this issue during my surgery with the left eye also; it appears to result from my pigment disperson syndrome.

Went back to work today and had no trouble with close and intermediate vision.  Next scheduled follow-up appointment is scheduled for next Thursday morning, May 12.

May 6, 2011 -- 2nd day post-op.

My right eye is quite comfortable today.  Distance vision very good, although it in general it seems not quite as acute as it was yesterday, It has fluctuated slightly throughout the day thus far.  I had this same fluctuation when I had surgery on the left eye, so I'm sure it's a question of the vision still needing to stabilize.  Near and intermediate vision is acceptable, especially with both eyes.  So far, so good.
