Need Opinions Please

Mar 07, 2013 - 12 comments

So my S.I.L. is driving me crazy! She keeps asking me if we've started Preston on drinking water. I've never felt the need too because in my opinion he gets plenty of water from his formula.

She knows that we've started Preston on solid foods. So again she asks "have you started him on water?". I tell her no. So then she goes on this rant about how he should have started water before starting solid foods because it's easier to digest. Blah blah blah. She is one of those people that thinks she knows everything about everything. (She's not a doctor.) She's had 1 child. Between my DF and I, we have 5.

I never gave Reilly water before starting solid foods 7 years ago.

My doctor has never mentioned starting water first before solid foods.

Preston drinks approximately 4 x 8oz bottles per day. I think that has decreased very slightly since starting solid foods, but not very much. Honestly, why would a 6 month need more water then that?

I'm curious to know what some of you ladies think about this

Not Enough? Too Much?

At 5 1/2 months, Preston is eating approximately 4 x 8oz bottles per day. I haven't started him on any solids yet, because he's not 6 months old yet.

I guess I'm just wondering if he's eating enough per day. He doesn't seem to be gaining any weight over the last 2-3 weeks. I've been weighing him at home, and he's been kind of fluctuating in weight. One day he'll be 17 lbs 4 oz. The next time he'll be 17 lbs 2 oz. And then the next time he'll be 17 lbs 6 oz.

Does their weight gain slow down around this time?

Preston has a doctor's appointment in 3 weeks for his 6 month needles, so I'll inquire about it then. And we should get the okay to start him on solids then. I'd just like to know other mom's input to see what they think.

My older son Reilly has always been small, so I never worried about his weight.

This is probably just me over-reacting, and being a concerned mom, but any input would be great
