Fear of: flying.
Most often, aerophobics have had a traumatizing airplane experience, like suffering through an extreme case of turbulence or witnessing a stressful in-flight event. Even the sight of an airplane or the thought of air travel can cause panic, nausea and vomiting in those with extreme aerophobia.
Aerophobia can be a major roadblock to one's career and personal life. Most aerophobics are treated by attending an educational program about flying (many airlines offer these programs), as well as some type of psychotherapy.
