Recognizing the Symptoms: Physical

Most people end up in the emergency room following a panic attack, as the physical symptoms are often mistaken for a heart attack. Some of the most common physical symptoms are:

  • Heart palpitations or an irregular heartbeat
  • Increase in blood pressure
  • Increase in heart rate
  • Chest pain or discomfort
  • Shortness of breath, shallow or choppy breathing or a feeling of choking
  • Sweating
  • Trembling
  • Chills or clamminess
  • Tingling of the extremities or around the mouth
  • Tightening of muscles
  • Nausea
  • Lightheadedness
  • Paleness
