I have some questions about membrane peeling and cataract surgery. I could not think of any one better than you to give me some advice. Would you please accept my friend request?
Thank you so much,
Hi Jodie: I had erm surgery 2 months ago, with cataract and vitrectomy at the same time. It seems like the membrane is continuing to show up now on the scan. I thought I had a different problem. Can it regrow in two months? Or do you think, as in your case that the doctor did not get it all? Thank you.
I have a few questions re:your erm surg. Could i get in touch with you?
Jodie, thank you for your wonderful posts that have been so helpful to me as I experienced (over the last two years and in both eyes) cataract surgery, refractive error, positive dysphotopsia, YAGs, PVDs, vitreous prolapse, lens exchange, vitrectomy, and retinal tear in one eye that required cryopexy, gas injection and subsequent Laser photocogulation. It has certainly been helpful to read your thoughtful responses and it has helped me manage my own healthcare. You are an angel. :)
I am impressed with your knowledge and willingness to help others.
I want my crystalens explanted.
I live in Ohio, but I understand I will have to go out of town for help.
Can you recommend any surgeons who can do the job?
Thank you so much
Thanks for posting your comments about doing cataract surgery without sedation. I'm interested in doing the same if/when I need mine (I don't think I need it yet, but I'm guessing it might get worse with time). I'm in the Chicago area - would you feel comfortable sharing the name of a doctor who performs the surgery without sedation? Or if not, perhaps a tip how to find one who is? Thanks.
Just a quick note to say hi!
I have read many of your posts on cataract surgery, Mini monovision, Toric IOL, Monofocals etc. you do have a vast knowledge on these subjects. Please respond to my question on "eye community"
forum. Question is " What kind of vision will I have after cataract surgery?" I would really appreciate it. My surgery is next week. I am worried a lot about my outcome.
Thanks a lot, Confused Kate
Dear Jodie, I am very glad to hear from you. I had RK in 92 in both eyes and Lasik in one eye in 2000. I am hyperopic with presbyopia and have minimal astigmatism. I wear progressive glasses. I have a cataract in my right eye. I am thinking about IOL's. I am leaning toward the Tecnis monofocal lens and doing mini monovision. My left eye is my dominant eye for distance but my cataract is in my right eye. I have thought of initially getting a lens in my right eye and seeing how it does. I have 2 questions: 1. Would you recommend that I get the intermediate or distance lens for this right eye? 2. Are you aware of anything more suitable than the Tecnis monofocal lens? As always, any and all thoughts you have will be most appreciated. Frank
Jodie J, I am just returning to medhelp after a few years off. I had to start a new account as I lost my old "sign in" information. I want to thank you for all of your helpful comments that you provide to struggling post RK people like myself. I am still considering mini - monovision using a monofocal lens. Presently, I am leaning toward the Tecnis monofocal. Unless I am mistaken, I have not seen any postings from you since Feb 2013. Am I not looking in the right place?
do you have contact infor for cyrstalens support line?
you seemvery intelligent in eye i have macular diplopia my doctors are at johns hopkins wondernd what youcan tell me about this and the treatment i see yors was getting the right prescriptions in eyes my mail ***@**** thank you so much in answering this would b verhelpful
You said you had cataract surgery after having a vitrectomy in one of your eyes. What type of lens did your surgeon use and the strength to get you to plano. What was your range ..myopic vision prior to the cataract surgery? Mine was a -4 and the doctor gave me a +22 EnVista lens to get me to plano. Post surgery I was a +1.5, a week later +1.00 ..my vision post surgery 20/60 and a week later 20/30. The eye feels blurry without wearing my distance glasses of +.75 to balance my eyes. My right eye is +.75 and so was my left eye pre-vitreous surgery. Did your eye immediately become plano post surgery or did it take time?
Thanks for your time and experience's in helping others.
What type of IOL did you have implanted. Were they the same in both eyes and did you have the blue blocker also? I have a -3.5 or more in left eye after retinal surgery and a +.25 in right eye. Have floaters also which was the reason for my retinal surgery. I have heard many horrible stories on ReStor, ReZoom, and Crystalens. What would you suggest? Thanks!
Dear Sir can you please help me....Please reply to my post...
7/27/12 macular pucker question for you from lady in New Zealand. Thanks Dr Hagan
I just found this site (1.2012). I'm 50's female in Chicago-land w/ eye issues. Are you still on here? Can we get in touch? I have some q's.
Just a quick note to say Thanks you for the reply. I will call the number tomorrow.
Happy Thanksgiving! Just wanted to say hi and thanks for still being "here" to give sound advice to those who need it, you've certainly got more dedication and patience than I (as I've been MIA from these forums for a long time). Anyways, I truly hope you'll have a happy holiday season and thanks again! Take care :)
Just a quick note to say hi!
I had my iol put in in april 25, 2011. My eye came out 20/60 which I believe is beyond what it shoud have been. What is the standard? Also I was told by 2 Drs that they wouldn't change the lens. So all this time is passing and any hope to change it is going. In addition I am unsure of who to chose to do my right eye with an outcome closer to 20/20. The Dr."s attitude seems to be accept whatever you end up with and if you don"t like how it turned out go to someone else to correct it. Do you know who I could see about both issues? Any ideas will be welcome. Also no Dr. wants to give me a copy of my file.
Just a quick note to say hi! and thanks Jodie for your quick reply.
Just a quick note to say hi! Thank you for the response. I think that is the lens that the second Dr is using. I'll check it out on monday. I believe he can put it in june 15, just need a driver as it's 60 miles each way and I need to go back the next day.
Just a quick note to say hi!
Thanks for answering my question. I paid $1,390 for both eyes and after not correcting my astigmatism I decided to consult another Dr. who said I could get lasik in 6 months. Also he offered to implant the other eye, but with an acrylic IOL for $1,500 for one eye and $2,000 for the lasik on tye first eye. That is the reason for my question. The first implant was from STAAR. Have you heard anything about them and problems. I'm trying to figure out whether it was a bad order with incorrect paramaters or a defective product with no astigmatism correction. Any ideas who to check with or where to start?
Just a quick note to say hi!
I signed on as freeworld1941 and asked about the differences between silicon and acrylic IOLs, but received no responses. I think you are pretty well versed on IOLs, so could you answer that question for me.Also, I had an IOL implant toric lens with an astigmatism of -100 and now I still have -100. The surgeon thinks I should be happy as he improved my vision from -525 to +50 (20/60), but I can't read signs or books due to ghosting. Any ideas?
hi! i want to know more about cataract! just add me thanks
Yes, I was talking about my unoperated eye being used for intermediate and near. But I think I will take your advice and postpone surgery on my right eye until after LASIK correction.
Jodie, thanks for your comments. I'm going to think about my decision to have surgery on the second eye at this point. Actually both my distance vision and near vision are more blurry than I'd like, although near/intermediate vision is more problematic right now. I use a computer extensively at work, and I have to wear my current prescription glasses to see it well.
My initial thought was that although 0.7D of astigmatism doesn't seem like much, my understanding is that it tends to impact vision more with a multifocal lens that it does with a monofocal, Also, I am looking forward to getting binocular vision back, as I have never tolerated contact lenses very well and have not worn them for probably 35 years.
Just a quick note to say hi! jodie can you be more specific on my condition and what would you do my eye doc also has recommended vision therapyany answer would be greatly appreciated thank you.
hi jodiej name is john had multiple detached surgeries now legally blind in left eye with perpheral vision now double had strab surgery in jan 2010 would like to see get better by at least 20 30 percent.doc at hopkins says do not wear patch or prisms as he says naturally is best i would like to get surgery again or small amount of prism as the vertical is close to fusing sometimes when i blink couple times it comes together
i see alot of people email you....guess youve been helpin alot of folks. thanks for the recommendation for the memphis doc. i am going to look into that. Could you give me more info on your acuity now and how it all went. when did you have it done? one discouraging thing is everyone offically talks about success as a couple of lines on the eye chart, but no one talks about the real world succes- for instance if youre stuck with double vision that doesn't go away, 2 lines on the chart won't do you any good. can you see better than before the surgery? i don't know if my health will sustain the surgery - post op recovery and complications etc. Was it worth it in your case? thanks muc.
I am 30 years old. I will have cataract surgey next week. I do not want to loose my near sight. I am -6.50 myopic, and 0.75 astigmatizm.
İf I leave my eye -1.50 myopic after cataract, can I see near? can I read book without the use of glasses?
how long cm or inch will it be that I could read?
Jodie, thanks for the comments -- I hope you are enjoying my journal. I'm posting for myself and for others who experience the same journey. I have been most impressed by your various posts. Keep 'em coming!
Just a quick note to say hi! Thank you for your post Jodi. I have exactly the same problem, in both eyes. I feel I am seeing life through a frame, especially close up. Distance isn't so bad. I have been told to wait also to see if my brain responds.
