Just a quick note to say hi! read your answer about Sxs.  I've had mine for over 4 years and was finally told by new hepatologist that apprx 6% of us will never clear them.  Once he said that I actually felt better.  At least I knew I wasn't crazy like some drs were treating me as.  I'm so sorry for those of us who never clear sxs but glad I'm not alone.  W/O the Tx I wouldn't have met my big headed granddaughter LOL .Good luck, Frank

Just a quick note to say hi! I am doing great as far as my liver goes, but problem with the diabetes again, and bad cholesterol, and something about my kidneys, and told me to take fish oil with omega 3. everyday.. I was taking about 3 times a week.  TSH looks good with the meds, so still on those, I guess for life.  But have gained back alot of the weight I lost, so thats where I am now, keeping track of my glucose so they can decide whether to put me back on amaryl or something different.   The gave me a scrip for the cholesterol, which I need to go have filled.   But its one that works through stomach and not the liver.      I quit smoking  2 weeks this friday.  and going to start walking in the mornings.  and on my breaks at work.  other than that.. fine.. great , and you ?

yep, i never understood those poems until treatment.  what he truly meant by "and miles to go before i sleep."  i feel changed after treatment, and isolated like no one is able to understand me.  my friends have also distanced themselves from me, as if friendship wasn't meant to last like they were promised to before i started treatment.  it proves how truly fake people can be.

Eric, i just read your "about me"  and noticed that you mentioned something about cognitive abilities.  you know, after treatment, i felt dumbed down, not doing as well academically as before.  but i don't want to use tx as an excuse, maybe i'm just not trying hard enough?  just a thought.  anywho, i like that Frost poem, it got me through tough times during treatment, thanks for sharing.

I'm doing good, considering. I had to switch career fields late in life after neck surgery this year. I can't do the lifting required in physical therapy anymore. I'm the marketing and admissions director for the SNF unit I worked for in rehab.
I'm going to have back surgery before the end of the year and maybe I'll be able to go back to P.T. partime someday. It's all I knew how to do for 27 years, but life is about change, right?
But hey, I don't have hep c anymore so all is good!

Thank you again for the reassurance.  I so appreciated  hearing your take on my situation.  I feel much more upbeat about things now, I guess I was a bit panicked when I got the call.  So thanks again for your help.

I somehow missed your last note. The trial is in Phase II. It did say it on the web page. I just did not look closely. I used the Firefox search feature and found it. Here's the link: http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00797745   I must be really getting blind, it's pretty near the top of the page. You might want to buy stock in Schering Plough, or Merck who just bought them a couple months ago. They also produce Boceprevir, which also looks really promising. It appears all 3 of them blow away SOC.

Did you have laser eye surgery? Or is a side effect of tx clearing up? My eyes got worse since I started treating.

Ok...maybe a piano won't work.  Unless it's a really big boat that you'll be sailing on, lol!  Maybe learn a foreign langauge?  That's at least easier to pack.  Hope you are doing well.  I am lovin post-tx.  Izzy

That's a good question. I think it's probably in phase 2, from what turned up in a Google query. It's due to end December, 2010, so that kind of leads me to believe it's out of phase 1. It's also not recruiting any more subjects. I have more detailed information at home. They always give me new printouts when something changes.

I was thinking of you earlier today.  Are you still thinking about learning an instrument?  I would like to request....the piano.  What do you think?  Doesn't require as much energy as a sax. Guitar would be ok....but I'm really pulling for the piano.  Then you could buy Mafalda a baby grand =)

Thanks, Eric. There really isn't enough long-term data on the PIs yet, and the short-term data appears very promising, so I will take my chances on being the guinea pig for 2 months of PI on the backend of Tx. Expect the worst and hope for the best, so I'm not crushed if I relapse. 7 treatments, goodness gracious, I know I couldn't take that! God bless you! At least you finally made SVR.

I did have that conversation with my doctor, at newleaf's suggestion. She said I may not be able to treat again with a PI because of such mutations. My doctor said this is correct BUT we have polymerase inhibitors hot on the tail of the protease inhibitors, and I can treat with one of them. Good enough for me to take my chances with the early stop! I need to do a little research on the polymerase inhibitors, but they sound promising. Take care, Anne

That is my thinking entirely. There is no point whatsoever in killing myself with the Peg/Riba cocktail for 52 weeks, when it didn't work that well and made me really sick. Someone posted on this site about quitting the Boceprevir trial after 6 weeks due to side effects. She wasn't expecting a good result but 8 months after quitting, she's SVR. The PI I'm on is second gen, so it's probably even better. It's SCH 900518, Schering Plough.

It's actually the Peg/Riba combo that is giving me a hard time. The PI just added a little stomach discomfort. My trial supplies Procrit but not Neupogen. Problem is they didn't have a Procrit needle with the right dose for someone my size (about 110 lbs). At 9.8, I don't think that was the big issue anyway. My neutrophils were low for 2 subsequent visits, like .31 or .32. My hematocrit was also low when they pulled me. My bedroom is the entire third floor of my house, and I had to stop on the second floor to catch my breath! I think I got primed too much with SOC. Crossover arm. By the time they added the PI, I fell apart. The PI also worked right away. Cleared within 2 weeks.

I almost lost my job while on treatment. Of course, I hadn't told anyone, yet. The brain fog that I didn't know I had was awful! I have been working on the Sun Certified Java Developer, and I really hosed my project during that last month or so when I got so sick. I got taken off all meds for 2 weeks, and the brain fog and depressive mood did lift for the most part. I just got done fixing my cert project. I'm a mid life career changer, so trying to do something new that isn't particularly easy in the first place while on treatment turned out to be a really BAD idea. With grad school starting in the fall, I know I can't complete another 6 months of this. My doctor and I agreed to do 4 weeks of all 4 drugs and call it quits. The PI does add a few more sides, mainly digestive stuff.
