Hello there! Thanks for asking--I called for my ER CT scan results, and couldn't get them over the phone. Sadly, I haven't had the time or motivation to go pick them up from the hospital yet, so I don't know if they found anything with the "artifact" or not. I'm seeing a neuro-opthamalogist this Monday to evaluate my vertical double-vision, then I'll probably get bloodwork for my thyroid (TSH/fT4) and my MRI the following week. Other than that...I'm still stuck in the mud. How are you doing? I need a mommy2two2008 update badly!

That's an excellent question...I think I'm supposed to call their ER and ask for the results, which wouldn't be ready until today or tomorrow. I'd also like to get a copy of the scan for my neuro to look at, so I might have to go back to the hospital to pick that up. I wonder if they found anything......

Thank you for your note--it cheered me up today! The ER was packed & it took over 3 hours for a doctor to see me. The actual doctor was really nice & very concerned, but he said he didn't know what was going on. The nurse thought it might've been a seizure of some sort. I ended up getting an IV of some migraine medication & a CT scan, but the interpreting radiologist was a "junior" radiologist (according to the ER doctor) & he noticed the pineal cyst and an "artifact" near the pineal cyst, but wasn't sure what it was, so they wanted a better radiologist to interpret it when he arrived in the morning. They told me I could stay & wait, but I was sooo tired from the meds and I wanted the darn IV out of my arm, & I asked them to discharge me. I felt out of it all day today, but otherwise, ok.

Hey. I finally got the test results. No cancer found!!! on the two lymph nodes and gland. I had two different things going on the same time. Sialadenitis -chronic infection of the submandibular gland and Eagel Syndrome of the calcified ligament. They tell me they got all the infection out when they took the gland out. Now the Eagle Syndrome, I do not know much about, but he told me that was very hard to diagnos until he was actually in there for another reason. I think all this is some sort of autoimmune disease that has caused it and that no blood work will ever show it either, but I am not a doctor.

Thanks for your prayers....

It sounds like it was probably a result of your medication. Hopefully, you BP has gone down since yesterday! Only a few more weeks, and you get your ultrasound done...I don't know about you, but sometimes I think waiting is worse than the actual symptoms. I did see a second neuro--he's with a teaching hospital, UPenn. He wasn't helpful and was very curt with my appointment because he viewed it as merely a consultation. He basically said my neuro seems to have a handle on things and that I have migraines. It was really disappointing. I sent some of my images to a GP I know and he said the pineal cyst probably isn't causing problems, but he was concerned about the "hollow" area showing up in the back of my head in the occipital region. Yikes...I don't even know where to start with this one.

Hugs!!! I know how frustrated u are....I can deff relate. My question, could it be something other then ur thyroid? AS I mentioned yesterday on my post- normal bloodwork- no meds: I can't tell if the symptoms r from the Hashimotos or the chiari.

I hope someone can answer.... for both of us!

I was just looking at the CT scans of your neck and while they look fine, I can definitely see the goiter, as well as what appears to be a slight deviation of the trachea. This makes me wonder...did you ever have a CT scan of your chest done to see if there's anything around there that's pushing on the trachea, causing the deviation and the thyroid problems? For me, I think the problem is coming from up above (vessels in my brain being blocked by the tumor), but I'm wondering if you have something similar (even if it's just swollen lymph nodes), except it's bothering the thyroid from the bottom.....

Hi, it's good to hear from you! I only have two neurologist appointments coming up--one this Thursday and one next Tuesday. Otherwise, my GP gave up and said I have something "viral" that'll resolve on its own, and the rheumatologist said I don't seem to have a rheumatologic problem...but recommended I see a hematologist or an infectious disease specialist. My tongue is still weird looking, and it burns sometimes (at the tip)--meaning I have burning tongue, I think. Another symptom of thyroid disease, go figure! The veins under my tongue are still swollen, I still have a lump in my throat that I feel when I swallow and don't swallow, and I am still having difficulty breathing. I hope the neuros tell me something!!! How have you been faring these days? Neck still giving you trouble?

Part 2:  Doctors have told me muscle relaxers won't help a bit.  Contrary, I do find a glass of wine or two does bring some relief!!!!  I'm being sent to Physical Therapy today for my muscle burning and tension. I'll be interested to know what your US shows.  Endo suggested an US of my Carotid Artery but is waiting for my Thyroid blood work to come back.  As I understand from articles I've read on the internet, there is no absolute imaging to diagnose Carotidynia.  I also hear it's tricky to treat....some types cure quickly on Motrin, others Migrain Meds and Prednisone and others just won't go away and keep coming back.

Doctor actually agreed with me on lowering the dosage. She did say I was on the low end of the range. (TSH .5) She thinks that would cure some of my problems. She does not believe it will affect me in anyway as far as having the surgery done and changing the dosage now. So now I am on 100 mcg of Synthroid. I do have to go see a gastrologist on Sept. 30 and also a Urologist for the frequent urination. She is trying to help us. (Husband was with me), so I can't get frustrated with her.

Thanks for checking on me....

Thanks Kim for all the info.  It's so interesting hearing all the different Doctor ideas.  It seems you always get a different story which is beyond frustrating!  I've only been given nerve blocking meds and never any type of anti-inflamatory.  I'm popping mega doses of Motrin right now as an experiemnt to see if I feel anything different.  I'm sorry your muscles are painful as well.  Both sides of my neck have gotten tight as a drum which has caused burning down my torso, upper back and behind my head.  I've been seeing an amazing massage therapist that knows a lot about anatomy.  She has been releasing my scalene muscles that are behind your SCM's and my Omohyoid muscle that lies pretty much behind the Carotid Artery.  Without her, I do not know what I would do.  ........

Hi:  My name is Carol and I've been reading the Thyroid forum a lot lately.  I saw a post from you that you were diagnosed with Carotidynia.  I've been in agony for 11 months with no diagnosis.  An Endo, yesterday, mentioned the possibility of Carotidynia.  This is the second time I've heard the term from a Doctor so I'm trying to put the pieces together.  After reading online, it appears to have no exact symptoms.  I was wondering what you experienced with yours, treatment and how long you had it?  Also, what do you think brought it on?  Thanks so much!!!
