Thank you for everything!
I'm currently not on any medications for my Bi-polar. I've been trying to let my body heal naturally by meditation and stress releif regiments.

I had the same reaction to lithium; it agitated me and I couldn't sleep. I've never tried Depakote, but I do have a friend that uses it as his sole mood stabilizer. If the Seroquel is working, I'd just stick with it; when people respond well to it, it's a great medication. I know folks that take the XR version of it and have great success.
Neurontin and Seroquel can both work on depression and mania, so they might be a good combination.

Thank you very much, I do my best to provide articulate answers that are backed up by qualitative and quantitative sources.
I can be very difficult to make a point if you don't have any 'ammo' in the situation.
Neurontin is viewed as a weaker medication but it does work well for a lot of people. Again, pdocs seem to think it's just an anti-anxiety medication because of it's effect on GABA but it also works as a mood stabilizer. It a first tier anti-convulsant so it smooths out neuronal firing. But, as I've posted before, it took a bad rap because it wasn't marketed properly. Then again, I don't know if many of these medications are marketed properly.

Just a quick note to say hi back to you! Sorry-- work keeps me pretty busy-- and I am starting to feel human again-- and actually starting to get out and do things again!! I am doing really well, for now at least!!! :) My hours at work are pretty long-- 10 hours most days plus 2 hours commute ( counting going to work and coming home)... I also work every 4th Saturday.... So I stay busy... and I think it helps my brain and my moods, too to have a good solid focus. That- and the fact that I stopped taking the LAMICTAL. Still using the VALIUM-- though, but not so much. I think 99% of my feeling so down and crappy WAS the LAMICTAL... Goes to show huh???
How are you??????

Hi Adel,
I am well, if a bit tired after a busy Easter. I start seroquel 600mg XL tonight (for the depression) but have decided not to start the AD for now and see how I get on first. I believe that the stars after our names in the posts are a recognition of our contribution to the community. So I think you have 4 or 5 - this tells the reader that you are a good source of information, and regular contributor. It is a new thing. I've only got 3 so I've some catching up to do haha! I hope you are feeling better and let me know how you get on with your new medication. Oh yes and I enjoyed the reading the info on the link you posted regarding BPD/BP today, take care, as always starbunny :-)

Personally, I believe melatonin is the best all around herbal. Because it regulates your sleep cycle, it can also have raise your mood the next day. It stabilizes or increases your serotonin output during the day because of the increase in melatonin at night. If you're going to try Valerian root, I would take it in conjunction with the melatonin. Valerian root, on it's own, won't help regulate your Circadian cycle the way melatonin will. Plus, with melatonin, you can take it for a few days, get back on track with your sleep cycle and you may not need to take it again for awhile. Unfortunately, I have to take melatonin consistently as my BP disorder is very tied into my sleep cycle. If I don't regulate it with melatonin, I don't sleep and I have a hard time sleeping as is.

Just a quick note to say hi!.The worst part about risperidone is that once you start it,you got to slowly taper it over 4-6 weeks and meanwhile you got to endure it's lousy side effects.

Just a quick note to say hi!.I want everyone to know that risperidone is a lousy med.Stay away from it.I have tapered it and almost stopped it.
09/09
Just a quick note to say hi! Thank you for your comments, these so called meds that I take can have horrible side effects and even kill (lithium). I had none of this when I smoked alone without meds and I stayed more level rather than going from up to down etc. The worst thing cannabis ever did to me was make me hungry!

Just a quick note to say hi! I don't think I'm cured. If I am under stress or have extremes of emotion I go manic. I am just good at avoiding excessive stress. I am definately not cured, just under control so far. I wish I was cured. I don't think you are ever 'cured' maybe mellowed but not cured.
I wish we could all be cured of this curse.

Just a quick note to say hi! Yes, I am sure I am bipolar. I have been this way all my life and I am 53 now. Luckily I have survived this long and other than mixed episodes I don't seem to go manic anymore. Sometimes I am hypomanic but usually I am stable as long as I live a quiet, stress free as possible life. I hope you find a good dr and the treatment you need.
