Thanks for your Easter Greetings. Sorry to hear that you've not been so well for a long time. I'm fine, my wife's Parkinson's Disease is not improving ~ it never will & continues its downward spiral. She copes very well with a extremely difficult problem. We are not too upset with our lot, of course it could be better, but we are happy it's not worse than it is. Thanks to meds/keeping active I'm doing well. Training for the 4 Daagse. nl  event in July. Apart from that we have no plans to travel etc. The weather's improving, that will be better than the long winter days. Best wishes, George

Hope that you are not going to get flooded out there? |s it likely|?Fortunately it's never happened to us.Lots of places in UK get floods, we are 208 feet above sea level & there's only a small stream running at the far end of village. You are mega busy around the house compared to me. Lots of things require my attention, but they are not top of my priority list. A German film recently seen on TV was very inspirational as well as interesting, in German it's called 'De Falscher', in English it's 'The Counterfeiter'.About the firging currency in a concentration camp under duress during WW11. The hot weather spell seems to be over, it was excellent when I cycled this morning. Stay well, best wishes, George

Wow! That was some drive ~ much longer than any I've done. Parents are always a cause of concern it seems. We've all got to cope with them, as out kids do with us Tomorrow we fly to Holland where I'm taking part in the Nijmegen 4 day marches. See www.4Daagse.nl for details. had a good 10 mile run today. Heat wave has past, it got to 31C & that was more than most here have ever experienced. Hope things work OK for your mother. Best wishes. George.

There wouldn't be enough of anything if we all liked the same things,.Had a lifetime of camping etc & have always liked to be outdoors/active.  What others may think about what I do or don't do does not concern me much. At my age I can get away with it! I'm happy that I can do all I can & don't want to travel etc anymore. In England you'll find lots of people that conform & lots that don't, we are now a secular society, which pleases me. Breaking tasks into manageable bits is the way to go.Weather's excellent here today, set fair for next few days. Won't ever get to US, but I see lots of it on tv. Hope all goes well for you. Bye for now, George

You are a workaholic! Whatever you eat  must be giving you lots of energy, along with motivation?Just back from a nice bike ride to meet up with friends for a natter. Camping overnight on Tues, training for the Dutch event most days ~ so am keeping busy on the things I'm enthusiastic about. The garden's really blooming, lots of flowers ~ all without any help from me or anyone else. Along with flowers there are some champion nettles & assorted 'wild flowers'. NB A weed is a plant that is in the wrong place ~ lots of those too. Happy varnishing ~ don't overdo it! Best wishes, George

We had a VW bug for 21 yrs. It never let us down. The 'modern' bug's not to our liking. I envy your energy/motivation to improve your house etc. Mieke's unable to function most of the time due to her Parkinsons, she gets a small window when her drugs kick in, but it's only short lived. Amazingly she doesn't complain. Running/Walking/Cycling gives no problems, always have the energy for that, but not a great deal else. The car's not used any more than necessary, at moment we have free bus passes ~ they may soon be withdrawn to help pay for the politicians greed etc. Oil disaster there should give some people a reason to think if taking such risks is justified by the ever increasing greed for oil. Our garden's a real 'wild life one'. Some nice flowers. Bye for now. Best wishes, George

Very pleased that you are feeling well. You seem to be very energetic around the house, enviable! Went  overnight camping on Weds. was quite cool, been frosts in morning for last week. Sun's come out most days, but the strong winds make it feel colder. July & August were the two main reasons I went into teaching. Enjoy your time off, We got about 12 weeks hols a year, Being retired's much better. Stay well, best wishes. George

House maint's not my first priority ~ had a job to do today, it should have taken only a few mins, but it took all morning! Weather's good here now, if you don't mind strong winds with occasional rain. For some reason I thought you'd already been here ~ at least it's still to come. Hope there's no more Volcanoes when you're due to fly. Growing some champion brambles ~ they could be used to moor big ships. Also, our nettles are about right for making soup. Tried it?No one's happy all of the time, even with drugs,  but at least I've enough experience to ride the waves. Hope same for you. Best wishes.George

It's been light years since we corresponded ~ hope you are well. By now you'll have been to UK & probably back in US?It's very nice to have good weather again, Spring's a wonderful time ~ used to prefer Autumn (Fall). But Spring's more positive, whereas Autumn shows things dying off. How nice it would be if we could trade in our faulty brains for new ones? Meanwhile the only remedy that seems to work for me is to try to dismiss the negatives that invariably come along. Let's hear your news. Best wishes,George

Your mother may be right, just the change of bed maybe responsible for the discomfort. Never had a 'bad bed'. Often when sleeping on ground/floor I've had a good sleep, or at least as good as I've ever slept. Your relief at getting back to your own must equal mine yesterday. Weathers still unchanged. Wish you a very good year to come & all that follow. Hope your mood's as good as mine is. Lots of things that I used to complain about no longer bother me. How wonderful it is to feel good. Out now to shop for food, no plans to buy anything to beat the increase of tax due on 1st Jan here. Best wishes, George

Never bought ice! Sorry can't advise about that. Just back from a solo backpacking trip to the coast. Rained non-stop for the entire time. But my camping gear's up to it & in spite of what the weather could do it was worthwhile. Felt like I'd been out for a  month. How wonderful to get back home. Does make me appreciate things more fully when it's been a challenging trip. Wish you & yours a very happy/healthy 2001. Stay well & keep in touch. George

Happy Holidays! Hi there, haven't heard from you in a while so I thought I'd ask you about your Christmas. Mine was spent with relatives so it was nice, and meant I diddn't have to cook for the first time in years! I've had a couple of days now on my own whilst the kids have stayed away and I've spent it sleeping and catching up with odd jobs. How's things been for you? Take care

Happy Holidays!

Hope you and your family have a relaxing holiday season full of lots of comforts and joy!  Has it warmed up at all where you are?  We are in for a cold and snowy Christmas, but not the severe cold of  a couple weeks ago, so that is welcome.  Nice to be able to go out and walk the dogs and work with the horses without losing all feeling in our fingers and toes:)

All the best,  Lisa

We don't have Skidoos here, in Norway I saw some signs that indicated they had them there, but never saw one. We are of course familiar with them from films/TV. Lucky you having blizzards. Just back from a nice ride in the rain as usual. Wore shorts, as usual & was warm & comfortable. No signs of snow here, the artices about heating food are very interesting. If you go to Zen Stoves you'll find lots of simply made stoves, along with some that are  not so simple. I use them a lot. Xmas Snow's very unlikely here. Enjoy yours. Best wishes, George

Hi, glad your work is going okay.  It is VERY cold here too.  -20F with windchills of up to -55F.  I hate when it is this cold.  Our school has been freezing as well.  Never close them here though.  It is hard on the kids (maybe more so for the teachers) because they don't get to go outside, so we have had them couped up inside pretty much everyday for the past two weeks.  With 5-8 year olds they start getting very trying:)  I'm taking a mental health day on Monday...I really need a long weekend:)

Take care

Pleased you found the receipe OK. Been at hospital for last couple of days. Need more time for skin cancer treatment, & will get more done next month. Also had my cataracts reviewed & that will also take place next month. We are very pleased with our NHS. Everything's free. of course some people have bad experiences, but what if they lived in the Third World then they'd do anything to get back here for the free treatment. So far out temperatures are hovering near 10°C.No snow usually in this area. In NE. there was always lots of snow when I was at school there. Weather in general's better in the S.of England. That's why we live here. Hope you are well & getting some fun with the snow.Do you ski? Be sure to lag the Brass Monkeys ~ maybe your husband will know what that means?Bye for now.Georg

Where there's a will there's a way. The RV will enable you both to get around, see interesting things & meet more people,.AOK here. Raing, but it's not a problem. Still quite warm, & on some days we even get to see the sun! I don't know what those things are that you forgot to follow the receipe for?Since I went vegetarian I've not missed meat. Mieke must have cheese, being Dutch she would be content to live on it. Impossible to know what to eat or reject now, everything on sale is unsafe & carcinogenic if you believe the media. We all gotta die of something, so I eat, drink whatever I like, without any health considerations. My belief''s that if you like it it does you good.Best wishes, George

No I don't have rabbits but I have a lovely little dog called gizzy who is half yorkie and half ?*?*!
I used to have a cat - Tula but it moved next door where there are other cats, there was nothing I could do about it, but I still see her around. A guinea pig comes over a few times a week with his friend, and they stay in my daughter's room. I also look after friend's donkeys, horse, chickens and cat on a regular basis, so you could say I am fond of animals!

Sorry to learn that your mother's got vision problems too. Age does these things, most get them, the really lucky ones have better genes. Genes are responsible for almost everything that happens in our lives ~ as I've mentioned before. Now I'm learning how to live with continuing deterioration, it's an interesting if unwelcome experience. Can't complain, been very lucky till now. Can still do lots of things my contemporaries can't. My wife & I are 'clapping out together' which is nice in a black way. But we are happy, try to do whatever we can & have what is on offer. Hope you do the same. Am content to stay in UK now, my wanderlust has been satisfied, never thought it would be, but it is. Best wishes,George.

The notes are limited, so I'll continue with another one. Here there were lots of unusual cars soon after the war. Bubble cars were great fun, I liked them a lot, but non could keep up in today's traffic. We avoid using a car, here we get free bus transport when over 60. That's a wonderful thing, buses are crowded with old, grey haired folk out for a day riding around free. It will probably cease when government changes. Some severe flooding in NW England at present, here it's OK. Severe weather there in your area?Must be horrendous to be flooded out ~ hope never to experience it. Bye for now, stay well. best wishes, George

Going to car-breakers for parts is a very sensible way of saving money. I've picked up all kinds of things from them in past. I used to buy used cars & 'renovate them' ~& sell them on, never made any money, but it did let me change my car very often. In the end I adopted the easy route & buy a new car every 3 yrs. It's costly, but since retirement have had 6 & non have let me down. I used to carry overalls, lots of cleaning rags, detergent & a full tool set/manual for the car. One car I had was somewhat unusual. It was a type you won't have heard or seen there.Bond Minicar. 3 wheels, no reverse gear, a motor cycle engine, kick start still attached, when the starter stopped I used to come out from cinema etc & open the bonnet, put my foot on the kick start to get it going & then turn 180°.

My guess is that your system's no worse than ours. Blair is the worst thing around, can't understand why this money grabbing b*****d is liked by anyone after his hysterical pleas to go to war & support Bush. There are more innocent dead due to that self interested swine ~ he's made millions since he retired. That Witch he's married to is in same league. I try not to get involved with politics/politicians/solicitors/estate agents ~ given power I'd put them aboard a huge ship & sink it in the Arctic. At moment trying to sort out some of the electronic gadgets bought when manic, I still am, but feel OK. Things can always get worse, for anyone. I know I'm a very lucky man. We have the best politicians that money can buy! They've been cought with all their snouts in the trough recently & are wriggling their way out without punishment. Politicians are unqualified, but an Honour's Degree in Being Economical with the truth is essential. Ours don't get into physical fights like the Koreans etc, but they have nil respect now, even if they had any before. We have some real slobs in high places. Guess it's always been so, only now the technology lets everyone know about it as soon as anything dodgy is detected. Obama's got a lot more style than Bush, he seems a decent sort of chap? How does he go down there?Hope you're well? Got good soaking on bike today. Refreshing. Best wishes.George

In UK it's mostly Mother-in-Law jokes for some reason. I've been to Stonehange Summer Solstice Festival twice. Failed to see the sunrise due to constant rain. But no one minded, most people there were stoned out of their minds on drugs. There was a good police presence, but the numbers of participants overwhelmed them & they turned a blind eye to constant trafficing all over the site. No way would I be tempted to take anything but prescribed drugs.Brain's muddled enough as it is. Hope you are well, my camping trip was quite an adventure, high winds/driving rain, got sandblasted by the soil being blown across the roads. We've been married 36 yrs. Has flown by. It was my 3rd, Mieke's first. We are never surprised at whatever comes from the USA. Bush? After that anything's possible. Good Luck
