Other Warning Signs

Before a migraine aura — or if you don't experience aura — some other warning signs can tip you off that a migraine is on the way. About a third of migraineurs experience early-stage migraine symptoms, called prodrome. Prodrome's symptoms include mood changes, food cravings, irritability, muscle pain and diarrhea. At this point you may have time to delay or prevent the onset of the migraine, or at least ease your pain, using over-the-counter options or medications your doctor has prescribed. And if drugs don't usually help you, at least you can get prepared for what's in store.
