ma, Hair Loss, Major Depressive Disorder, Right Bicipital Tenosynovitis, Left Foot Extensor Tendonitis; Right Knee Conditions: Chondromalacia Patella, Patellofemoral Subluxation, Meniscal Degeneration, Keratosis Pilaris, Eczema, Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome, Poor Night Vision, Visual Trailing, Visual Ghosting (worsens with exertion), Left Eye Pain (of unknown origin), Bruxism (clenching my teeth in my sleep), and Poor Balance and Coordination Problems. All of these conditions have been officially diagnosed. I also have several other symptoms that are not attributed to any of my diagnoses at this time, including: heat intolerance (I get hot in normal temperatures, and with very little exertion), intermittent flushing/burning skin (of unknown origin), a non-psychological olfactory hallucination (I smell an unidentifiable odor, but during it I have the thought that I’m “smelling” tingling, which doesn’t make sense, but that’s how I feel!) with a visual trigger (seeing the “wheel” on “The Price is Right” triggers the smell--I know, weird), strange tastes (citrus-like, metallic), and the weirdest of all—a “fizzing” sound and sensation in the back of my neck, lasting between 15 seconds and 2 minutes, and which happens both at random times, and oddly enough, when I’m hungry . I have no idea what causes these strange things, and the doctors that I have been brave enough to tell, have dismissed them. I do my best to enjoy life despite my illness, and I try to support others who suffer with invisible conditions. The vast majority of my health problems are totally unapparent to people. I know what it is like to be treated as if I am faking, to have my disability questioned and doubted, to have people not understand why I can't do "normal" activities, why I might shy away from being touched, why I don't ask to hold a loved one's baby or pick up a toddler (because sometimes it would be painful, sometimes I just don't have the strength, and because I can never be sure that I won't lose my grip or balance while holding the child--so I will only do it with someone else serving as a "spotter" to ensure that the child is secure should I lose my hold). I know what it's like to be limited by illness, and in some small way, I hope my understanding can comfort, support, or educate others in similar situations.
