Who said anything about donating blood? Red Cross won't take any blood from someone with antibodies, that’s as far as they’ll test. HOWEVER, antibodies are different than having Hep C. You only have Hep C if you have detectable virus in your blood. If you have antibodies and no virus, it means you HAD Hep C at one time and no longer have it, similar to having tuberculosis. My father has TB antibodies but does not HAVE tuberculosis. Same as chicken pox & other diseases where antibodies remain. That’s very different from having virus-free blood. Virus-free and antibody-free are two different things. You do NOT know what you are talking about and you’re putting people at risk and taking away hope. There IS a cure and it means being virus free NOT antibody free.

Yes, I have done extensive research on Hep C. I know I will always have the anitbodies in my blood -just as I do from contracting chicken pox and measles -but I am also happy that it is no longer doing harm to my body. In a "0" viral load, I cannot pass it on to others, it is not replicating in my system, and I have shed the gnawing fatigue from my body's constantly fighting it. I wish it made me immune to other types of Hep C, but I know this is not so. Regardless of the undetectable viral load, I will continue to be checked yearly and keep my liver enzymes monitored. At the 5 year mark, it is recommended I have a liver US and a repeat biopsy (I was grade 1/ stage 1). Thank you for your concern -I realize many in the forum have not fully educated themselves...~MM

My post isn't about judging who drinks.
If you chose to have a drink now and then, that's up to you.
My post is about those of us who have quit drinking and how it feels to be in a society where many are not sober,
For those of us with liver damage, why would we pour gasoline on fire, which is what drinking is to hep C ?
People have been getting cirrhosis from alcohol usage long before anyone knew the words hepatitis,
Yes, the treatment is potentially damaging to your body in many ways. It angers me that there isn't more research into a better, less damaging treatment but that is entirely off the subject
Live your life in denial if you like. I prefer to be as clear headed as possible.
