2/18/08 - GP finds enlarged thyroid at routine visit
2/19/08 - blood work: ... [More]
T4 - 5.14 (4.87-11.72 ug/dL)
TSH 3rd gen - 0.72 (0.39-4.19 uIU/mL)
Total T3 - 1.37 (0.58-1.59 ng/mL)
Free T4. - 0.68 (0.71-1.48 ng/dL)
Calcium 9.3 (8.4-10.2 mg/dL)
2/22/08 - Ultrasound finds 6.4 cm mass replacing lobe, small cyst in other lobe
3/18/08 - ultrasound-guided FNA finds no obvious signs of malignancy
3/28/08 - partial thyroidectomy (left lobe and isthmus); put on 88 mcg generic synthroid , plus steroids for swelling and antibiotics to keep the incision from getting infected.
3/31/08 - path report confirms benign tumor measuring 6.4 cm x 5 cm x 4.3 cm, approximately the size of a clementine (small tangerine)
4/25/08 - no longer on synthroid. doc giving me a one-month trial to see if my levels stay healthy
latest labs show:
calcium 8.9 (8.6-10.4 mg/dL)
Free T4 1.4 (0.8-1.8 ng/dL)
TSH 0.12 (0.40-4.50 uIU/mL )
5/27/08 - still off synthroid. another three months to see how the levels go. latest tests:

Well, I went to the blood bank yesterday and they couldn't take my blood. After giving them almost 5 gallons of my iron rich blood, they lost my records! They have been pretty good to me though, so no harm. The gal that stuck me was great.....they have new lubricated needles and it slipped right passed all of that scar tissue. One more pint for someone in need!
So, it wasn't really a test this time. I test my Graves and HH in a week or so. Don't see the Endo again until August unless she sees something goofy with the test. The see the Liver Dr. in July (I think) so he'll just tell me to keep giving blood 4-5 times a year.
Gramps is sinking fast. I don't think that he is going to make it after all.
