MY STORY
(Mania is my strongpoint)
A few years ago, I was high and decided to embark on a new enterprise.
I fast tracked a visa and jumped on a plane to China.
After a week or so in Shanghai and not satisfied with the “response” I was getting, I moved inland to Nanjing.
I started work on my “master plan” which included setting up an office in the centre of town. My sales skills increase dramatically when I’m elevated (this also applies to me with women)
So I sort of seduced this little Chinese lady and she was over the moon when I proposed marriage. In China they have two ceremonies, the official marriage at the government office, then about a week later the “family” event. We had a big week!
After a short honeymoon, I got back to work and decided to also diversify into the local business scene and open a “Western style” coffee shop. I leased premises, started buying equipment, interviewing staff – I was having a ball!
Five months later, (I bet you've guessed) I started running into cash flow problems.
I was sensible enough at that time to realize my predicament before I was completely broke and I was able to extract myself from my comittments. This chewed up the rest of my money though, but at least I was able to leave with “face”.
So back home, cap in hand I meekly went.
Twelve months later, I returned to Nanjing to undo the marriage and get a divorce. Fortunately my Chinese wife was very understanding.
I’m 49, only diagnosed 3 years ago and I have many more stories!

MY DIAGNOSIS STORY:
I self diagnosed 3 years ago when I was interstate and stayed with a BP person in severe depression. In order to understand more, I later purchased a BP book and when I started reading it I realised.....OMYGOD! - this is me!! I ticked almost every box in the questionairre!
When I got home I ran straight to my doctor and then joined a waiting list for his psychiatrist. As things transpired, due to some business circumstances, I had a breakdown before I could see the psychiatrist and spent a month in a hospital psych ward.
I believe I am pro-active and over the last 3 years have looked for doctors I am calm and happy with. I've moved on with doctors quite few times (my family accused me of doctor shopping), but I am now very happy with my GP, Psychologist and Psychiatrist (two of them lecture at University). I also see a Dietician to counter the drug related weight gain problems.
I'm diagnosed BP II, but fortunate that my depression periods are mild. But my highs are high!
I've done some crazy things when I'm high - like lost fortunes twice - I spent 5 months in the middle of China once and married a local woman while I was there - I've inappropriately fathered a child while manic - I can go on and on.
I attend a BP social group, it's very worthwhile, because you know they understand, no explanations are necessary! [Less]

Thank you much!! I'm trying to get my health up, i let it deteriorate so much and never realized it until i got out of the hospital today. I'm starting over! With y'all, hopefully i can.
