About Me: Female, 79, Canberra, Australia, member since Jun 2009
I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in November 2006, had a full oophorectomy, followed by 6 treatments of Carboplatin & Taxol. Bringing my CA125 back to 27. Went into a remission until February 2008, recurrence in Liver followed by 2 treatments of Doxorubicin then a se
[More]vere allergic reaction, with Hand & Foot Syndrome. This brought my CA down and did a lot of good, but was unable to continue. The next step, I was put back onto smaller weekly doses of Carbo and Taxol, during the fifth treatment of Carbo I had an anaphylaxis this was ceased also with then having the appropriate medication to counteract the allergy to carbo, then continued on with Taxol. I was then continued on with Taxol only treatments for another 6 treatments on a weekly dose with every fourth one off. Again another short remission. Recurrence again in February this year 2009. Commenced on Tablets daily, Femara. This did not work after having been on them for 8 weeks, then Commenced on Topotecan for 6 weeks, this did not work and yesterday I was started on Gemcitabine to have day 1 and 8 with day 15 off. CA125 up to 3,500. Must say after having three weeks off treatment was beginning to feel great and did not have a chemo brain. Today just 24 hours after the first treatment I have only had very mild headache and feeling fine, whether this is good or bad I don't know. Will continue to keep you informed.
Hello Sweet Dorthy! Yes it's been a while. I'm glad that they have you on simething that is dropping your numbers. My CA at the Austin lab was also over 4000 but here at MD Anderson it's in the 1700s go figure. I'm starting a new trial and doing all of the tests beforehand. I'll tell you more about it when I get home this weekend. Take care and hang in there.
