Vyvanse: Miracle or Disappointment?

My initial concern was sleepiness. I tried welbutrin and it knocked me out, provigil did the same.

I've been on the new Vyvanse for a few weeks now and it is too good to be true.

I feel like the person I always wanted to be:

Alert, funny, not compulsive with food

But now the fears begin. I'm terrified and obsessed with the idea that this is a honeymoon period and it will all wear off.

I constantly search the boards for a confirmation of this fear.

I'm on week 2 of 50mg of Vyvanse and already am not feeling quiet as amazing as I was.

Am I creating this or does Vyvanse really only make you feel great for a short amount of time?

ANd what of the appetite?

As someone who has struggled with food addiction and weight my entire life it was an unexpected miracle that Vyvanse COMPLETELY rid me of my food compulsion...I have to remind myself to eat?

Can anyone calm me down? Confirm my fears? suggest something else?

Get off of it now. They took me off of it five days ago and everything is a desaster. Withdraw. Depression. The whole 9 yards.

That fact its working for you in the morning means that the time release part is fading.  Granted it should be good for about 8 hours, but we all are different.  Talk to your shrink.  I would imagine he will just up the dose - as you can go up to 70 mgs.  You also might want to experiment with taking it later in the day.  Best wishes.

I am in the exact same situation as you. I have been on 40mgs of Vyvanse now for a month and a half and I fear the "honeymoon" period is over. At first my compulsive eating ceased and I was ambitious and eager to work and clean and take care of business. But now I find that I'm more or less back to being overly hungry and have less energy again and find it harder to keep on tasks that need to be done. It's very depressing because in the morning it does it's job but around 1 or 2 pm it's pretty much said and done for. My doctor urged me to at first start with adderall but my shrink said that vyvanse wasn't addictive so I should start with that first and see. But now Im thinking i shouldve just gone with what my doc. originally wanted to put me on. :(  I miss not being so hungry and tired!! -RG frustrated

Like tam97 said, tolerance is a natural part of taking any stimulant medication. Your body adjusts to it. I'm not advertising anything, I'm not a doctor, but I'll just point out that Adderall is the best for appetite suppression, and as far as I know doesn't make you fall asleep (quite the opposite, really, it beats No-Doze any day!).

I think you won't have any problems with tolerance for at LEAST several months before you have to change the dosage, though. Don't be paranoid, it's natural to be scared when using such serious medication, but if you tweak out over it, then what's the point of taking it? :P Make sure you always take it with or without food (I.e. pick one style of taking and stick to it) because if you normally take it on an empty stomach then take it with breakfast one day, it may feel like it's not working as well.

Sorry to disappoint you but with all drugs, its great at first, almost an answer to prayer, but reality sets in. You will develop a tolerance to it. that means that you will have to take more and more to get the same affect. Then after you are taking 10 a day or more you will feel nothing at all. That's the sad reality of drugs, prescription or not. That great feeling you get at first doesn't last long and your worse off than before. If its amphetamine, your appetite will soar when you quit taking it.Its a vicious merry-go-round. Ive been there.

I been on vyvanse for 2 weeks now and the energetic feeling is not quite there anymore but I can still pretty much focus on things. I started out with 30mg now im up to 60mg. I have also been thinking bout giving it a break for maybe a week to build my tolerance back up if that makes any sense.

I've taken it a few times.
First time I had the worst tremors and moto tics I'd ever had in the middle of class i looked like i was convulsing i couldnt control and of my muscles, hands and neck are the worst. Not only that but I felt nauseous and dizzy and just generally like i had so little control over my body. It's so embarrassing, which makes the tremors worse.

Then I gave it another chance the other day and my tremors were the best they've been in a while. I don't feel like it's as potent as adderall but definitely fewer side effects other than my first experience.

I've been taking Vyvanse since the end of June 2008 and it's still working great for me. I still have to remind myself to eat, and then eat a little more. I lost 30 pounds in the first 4 months and could easily lose more if I didn't actively work to keep my weight stable. The only problem I've had involved a switch in birth control pills that resulted in decreased effectiveness of the Vyvanse. So if you are a female taking BC pills and everything is fine the way it is- keep the combination no matter what!!
