Well, it could or could not be ADHD.  More on that in just a second.
The main thing is that what his moms boy friend is doing borders on abuse. It not only doesn't work as he has probably figured out by now - it will make things worse.  Tell him to buy the book - "SOS Help for Parents," by Lynn Clark.  Heck, you buy the book for them.
In terms of ADHD.  One reason that Mark gave his advice was that he as well as all of us don't have enough information to make that kind of a diagnosis.
To have ADHD you must have had the symptoms for at least 6 months.  It must be occurring in at least two different places. And the person must have at least 6 of the 9 classic symptoms.  The link below gives those symptoms as well as a lot of other good information.  It might be worth printing out and sharing.

I will say that church schools typically do not have the ability to work with special needs students.  And moving a child up a grade many times also means that since they are now the smallest and youngest kid in the room, they are kinda of scared.  But, the big fear is that he has continued to be a year a head of his fellow students and is now way over his head.
What grade is he in now and when is his birthday?  How are his grades doing now?
If looking at the information I gave you on ADHD does make you more suspicious, it may be time for you to share this info with his mom.  Tell her to post here if she needs more information.  Maybe post as Mandysdaughter.   Hope this helps.

Hi Mandy, thanks for the update.
Sorry to hear that you are on so many meds.  Make sure all your doctors know what meds you are on.  They don't always communicate very well, and sometimes one med might affect the other.  Best wishes.

You are right that is not normal.  Those are very classic signs of being given too much meds.

Do let us know what happens.  And do check out the info on Sensory.  No drugs are used to treat it.   And even if he does happen to have ADHD, if the meds are used correctly - there should be no Zombie effect.  That only happens in an overdose which any competent doctor can easily avoid.

Thank you for the information on his age.  I was just trying to make sure that he was the correct age for his place in school.  I was worried when you said the church school had advanced him a year.  His age is ok, so that is not whatever the problem is.
Most people have not heard of Sensory Processing Disorder. If it were not for Specialmom who is the CL on the Sensory Forum, I never would have known about it either.   If you do need more info on that you can post here

he is in first grade and is 7  his birthday oct 15th.  he is taller than most kids his age.he is going to be tall and thin. i will check out SPD notsurei have heardof that.  i dont agree with how her boyfriends punishes him i wrote in on the abuse forum.  was not sure if that was abuse are not.  my dad when i was small.  my mom would not spank us tell us to wait in our room un til daddy got home.  he would bring a chair into our roomand talk to me or my sis and tell us how we hurt them by what we did.  i had rather have been spanked.  my daddy was a gentle soul.  he never spanked or hurt us in his entire life.  i am not use to the way kids are treated these days.  my daddy was a detective.  i loved him and was so proud of him. his dad was the same way.  they were jusy sweet teddy bears. when my dad got through talking to us he would come and give me a hug.  and then he would say are yiu going to do that again of course we would say no.  and we usually did not.  my sister was 6 years older than me and was spoiled rotten she usually got what she wanted.  thank you nice to hear from you. mandy876

Its probably not sensory, but its worth checking out these symptoms just to be sure.  SPD is many times mistaken for ADHD and the treatments are completely different!   Anywho - take a look just to be sure.  The link is -

Oh, I did have a really important question which was - what grade is he in and when is his birthday?

Wow, those are the things you do for a child with Sensory Processing Disorder.   Do textures or loud noises bother him?  How about foods? Is he a picky eater?

he is tall for his age and thin.  clothes or hard to find unless they come in slims.  when he lived with us for 5 years.  he was a sweetie.  of course be aree biased.  used to when he got one of his hyper things he would look around for somethingto hit.  i grabbed a pillow and said here beat this up.  when he finished he said thanks. anither time we were in my room i was not feeling good  and he got hyper again,  i had my legs drawn up on the bed.  i put my arms around him and did not say anything.  he calmed i said you ok.  he said yes.  i told him i loved him and he ran and hugged me. he can not be still he moves all the time even in his sleep.  they let him play like black ops.  i think he is too young for those games.  i might be a little old fashioned i am 73.  but all he thinks about is guns (toy guns).  he can beat his moms boyfriend.  sometimes.  he  does not live here any more.  we ,isss him.  mandy876

He sounds like a normal boy with a normal number of imperfections. As for the punishment, this should be in the hands of his mother, not an outsider. It could not have a good result.

he makes friends really easy.  he is very out going.  but he just can not be still.  he has to be moving at all times.  when we will play games on my laptop.  i will feel a foot on top my head in my ear and an elbow poking somewhere.  i love him so much.  his moims boyfriend  punishes him which to me it is not right,  he stand him in a corner and makes him beend his knees and then hands him a pencil wuth theindex finger on the eraserr and th other on the lead.  if he drops the pencil or moves he has to start over.  i dont think this is proper treatment.  he has got to where he will lie knowing his mom knows the difference.  but he will not admit when he is wrong.  he gets in trrouble at school for talking and running in the lunchroom.  and back ttalking the teacher.  he is not like tthat when he lived with us for 5 years.  he went to a church school.  they said he was smart and was just bored because hee already knew what theey were kearning.  they moved him upa grade and he did better especislly when his friend Katie got moved up  to.  i dont know.  mandy876

All little kids have a lot of energy.  If this 7 seven year old didn't have a lot of energy, I would be concerned.  As with all kids, he requires structure to help him learn how to appropriately funnel that energy.  Don't focus on a diagnosis for typical child behavior that requires structure and discipline.
