Vyvanse Psychois

My daughter is 18 years of age, she was prescribed 20 mg of Vyvanse, the first drug she has ever taken in her life besides an antibiotic. She woke up and took the 20 mg dose of the drug that morning as usual, and this was exactly two months to the day that she had been on it. She told the lady she worked with that she could not seem to concentrate, and felt confused. This was a Friday afternoon, and she was confused, complaining her thoughts were racing.
By Sunday she was completely paranoid, jumping at the slightest sounds. She developed psychosis, became catatonic, and I took her to the ER, no drugs in her system, normal MRI, no medical issues. She has been in a state of psychosis for three weeks, hallucinating and even with lithium and zyprexa she is not any better.  I am desperately seeking information on anyone who can help. She was a fully functioning dance teacher, outgoing, healthy and even the doctors are perplexed. Any answers or thoughts would be welcomed. Please.

It sounds like the dreaded black box warnings of serious nervous system damage was realized. The brain and body are full of precious nerve cells, synapses, and a complex dance of transmitters and receptors. My best guess? She was poisoned. Her body lacked the ability to detox properly. I wonder what happened to you all since...? If still struggling (or anyone else), I recommend IV glutathione, the body’s detox molecule... a LOT of liver support (no gluten, dairy, processed foods, and especially no seed oils!),  consider IV Vit C, IV NAD or NAC/NAD supplements. Craniosacral osteopathy can also remove the trauma her body experienced. So sorry, and hope this resolved well.

Did you see the message I sent you via medhelp?  It included more ideas that could not be published on line since they were links to Dr. Parkers site.
I am guessing that she seems devoid of emotions because she is on some heavy duty psyc meds.  And I certainly could see how she would think she died a spiritual death due to her psychosis.  That would have to be so scary.
You can message me back through medhelp by clicking on your name and going to compose message.   But, I doubt that her facebook page would be helpful, unless it showed a change in personality leading up to this event.
If you are positive that she was on no other meds (have you directly asked her this question - it is so important!)   This is a really mysterious situation.
It may be that only time will be the healer.  Visit her a lot!  Bring familiar things to her.   Hopefully, she is able to get up and exercise, dance, whatever.  I think that would be important for her.
I feel for you.   You have to feel so helpless.  Keep in touch.

No other medications at all. She was also teaching Bible studies for college aged kids, had just had her photos printed in a local magazine for her swing dancing abilities. I went to the hospital to visit her today, and she seems so empty of emotions. She was very involved in reading the Bible and I have to ask this question. She seems so disturbed that she did not do anything enough to please God. It is so upsetting to hear this outgoing girl speak of how she died a spiritual death, and that is what is wrong with her she said.

I am so lost. If you send an email to me I will reply and give you the link to her Facebook and you can get an idea of who she is. I need any input I can get. Thank you for the fast responses.

     From Dr. Parker:
            Dr Charles Parker

Sandman2,
Will get back to you this weekend and will drop a note over there, right now no time. Strong immediate impression: She likely suffers with unrecognized biomedical contributory challenges, especially since refractory to meds.

Was she on Prozac or Paxil? I worked with a guy in Calgary who had, count them, 6 psych hospitalizations for paranoid schizophrenia on Adderall and Prozac.

Wow, in all my years on this forum, never heard of this.  I have heard of something a bit like this when on Stim meds and either Paxil or Prozac - but, it sounds like she was on no other meds?
I forwarded your post on to Dr. Charles Parker who is an expert in this field.   Usually, he has a very quick response (which always amazes me).  Hopefully, he will have some ideas.
Keep us posted on anything that happens.   I feel for you and your daughter.  It is such a helpless feeling to not know what is going on.    Best wishes!!
