12 step programs

Has anybody tried 12 step NA programs? I've tried and read all of the lit. but find it really isn't my cup of tea. I've been off of the dope for a long time now and have found that this format, chat groups, are the best support ever. Well, my family and friends too. It's just making the commitment to yourself and then getting clean. No knock on 12 step programs at all. I believe that they first opened my eyes to the need to recognize that my life was out of control.

I so agree with you ! I too went to AA, but at  times it was very depressing to go.  Recovery is a personal journey..no one person's is the same!

Meetings were ok for me but I found more help in books .  They are definitely right when they say stay away from people, places, and things that are triggers.  I guess everyone has their own way to defeat addictions.  It does have to be someone' that is addicted first priority above every thing else
