A Native American Prayer - tzt

tzt - honey since you are my dear friend I have come to take solace in you and your Native American ancestory.  I was just looking for inspiration and I found this on the net.  I really love it.

Oh, Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the winds
Whose breath gives life to the world, hear me
I come to you as one of your many children
I am small and weak
I need your strength and wisdom

May I walk in beauty
Make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset.
Make my hands respect the things you have made
And my ears sharp to your voice.
Make me wise so that I may know the things you have taught your children.

The lessons you have written in every leaf and rock
Make me strong--------!
Not to be superior to my brothers, but to fight my greatest enemy....myself

Make me ever ready to come to you with straight eyes,
So that when life fades as the fading sunset,
May my spirit come to you without shame.

Oh hun, just go!!   Trust me, they like it when people come to visit the pow wow!   Especially nice people like you!!  If you ever go, just remember if you go into the circle always walk clockwise around and not across, not take any pictures without permission, and you are good to go!!

I have a shawl my mom made me that I dance with.  Id love to get a tribal dress.  Someday.
hugs and miss you

Oh I would love that shel!    I didnt get a pic and would love to see it.

Do they have pow wows out there???    That is an awesome thing to attend.  I dance in the local pow wows but just as a visitor.  I still don't have my tribal dress because I want to get it the traditional way and not just buy it outright.
take care sweetie

Oh, honey, I love that prayer!!!   When I graduated with my bachelors, the local Native Amer folks had an "Indian" graduation ceremony for the Native grads.  We had a drum circle, birdsingers, sage was burning and we wore mocassins with our grad capes.  I minored in Amer Indian studies and one of my Indian teachers spoke to the class andthen gave us a token with that prayer on it.

I sooooooo  needed to hear it again and it holds so much truth in regards to our addiction, doesn't it?

Thanks again sweetie and I hope you do well today, it isn't easy but we will get there!

I would love to go to an Native American ceremony of any kind.  The culture just fascinates me - even more so that I live in Montana.  The town I live in is even a Native American name...I will email it to you.  I have to send you a pic of when I went to custard or did I send it to you?  Darn memory.  I got my pic taken with a gentleman and he was in full dress.  Nicest guy and he put up with my questions! lol
