Any advice please would be very welcome

Hello all.  I have a question for you guys who live in the USA.  I am due to travel to the US in approx 3 weeks time, but I have a major problem with the amount of Valium that I take.  The Doc has prescribed me 3 x 10mg per day, that was many years ago but now I am on 17 x 10 mg per day, i take them all in the night to help me sleep.  I have been doing a fast taper of - 10mg per night (as originally I was on 30 x 10mg).  I realise I am dumb and at my age 45 i should know better, but looking at the US website it seems very difficult to take the Valium with me.  Anyway to cut to the chase how does your prescription system work over there??  If I went to a pharmacy with my script (all in french) would the pharmacies give me the Valium? or if I went to a Doctors how would that work out?  Do i take the prescription and then go to different ones to get my quota??  I have no clue what to do.  it is so easy here in france to obtain Valium, I just take a photocopy of the presription and off I go to various places.

I do realise that coming off Valium this quickly is not good and should be a slow taper, but I have no time to do it properly, and to tell my Doc what I have done, he would go mad.  I am only in the States for 17 days, but I know that I can't go cold turkey and that is bad for me with the amount that I am taking.  Obviously I can carry a certin amount with me because of my prescription, but nowhere near enough for me.

Sorry to blab on, but when I made the booking, I forgot about my addiction and how strict the laws are at customs, and I certainly don't want to put into prison as I am travelling with 5 year old son.

Any insight on how the health system works over there would be really helpful to me.  There is light at the end of rainbow, because I know I have a problem, and I am dealing with.

Thank you to all who read this message and give advice.  Sorry forgot to add that I was given valium because I have MS and get stressed very easilly which brings on a relapse.

If your prescriptions are legal in France (?) or where ever, and your name is on the bottle, I don't know why you should have a problem.  I'm sure many travelers are on meds that they need to carry with them.

Hey, not sure I'm going to be able to help much, but...the first thing is.....from what I hear it is very dangerous to go cold turkey from benzo's. They are definitely much stricter with prescription's here. Coping the script and taking it to different pharmacies will probably land you in jail.
You should probably post this on the other side "Substance Addiction Abuse Community". You will probably get a lot more answers there. Although they might not be good news.  Sorry
