WOW! That's cool that happened to you. I think it's the simple things that can mean so much sometimes!

About four years ago, decided one day to do some random acts of kindness and I couldn't believe the hostile reactions I got. One of the things I did, for example, was while in line at The Dollar Store, I told the cashier after paying for my stuff, that I wanted to also pay for the person's stuff in-line behind me. I tried to give the cashier the money and she did not understand...she got pi$$ed and kept shoving the money back at me. This caused a ruckus as you could imagine, the person behind me looked at me in a confused way and I simply explained what I had been trying to do and and I tried leaving the money on the counter, but HE would have none of it either and called me crazy.
The only place I found that it worked, was in-line at the grocery store. I would give a dollar or so to the cashier for the person following me in line (yes, besides the dollar you could donate on your order for a charitable organization).
Oh lord sara.....you're cloaking device is on? Oh no, that can't be good...
Dont be afraid........im going invisible........
I am afraid that we will have to settle for your presence................
Well I think we should do it.Jeff since it was your idea you should start a thread asking for suggestions on what our 'act of kindness' should be for a particular day.I think with the holidays approaching it would be a wonderful thing to do.People get so cranky, myself included, out fighting the traffic and the crowded stores.Theres nothing like waiting in line at the check out for 30 hours to take the Christmas spirit right out of ya.I think it would be great to put our heads together and just think of some little thing that would put a smile on someones face, make them remember what this time of year is REALLY all about.Plus it always makes you feel good about yourself doing something nice for others.
What an awesome idea... Random Act of Kindness Day!
Me either =) But they tax us to death on LI I guess that makes up for it lol.
I must live in the sticks as we dont have toll roads here.
Someone did something like that for me, about 8 months ago. I was taking the toll road and when I got to the window, the toll guy says "Your good" I just stared at him...saw the light was green and he says "you can go" I continued to stare at him trying to hand him the money. He finally said " Your toll was paid for by the car in front of you, did U know the people in front of you?" I said NO and he said well, your toll was paid now get the **** out of here before everyone starts honking....lol. Ever since I do the same for others.......I thought it was really cool.
Nauty.........
I love the idea! Here in Salt Lake - one of our radio stations had a guy out going through drive-thrus like McDonald's, etc. and what he would do was pay for the person behind him. They were planning to do it throughout the day and asking people to do the same thing for others as well. I have a feeling it's going to be a wonderful simple acts of kindness day!!!!
I remember several years ago when Oprah suggested it and it was amazing! We did a small thing as we were driving to Washington, D.C. on a toll road and paid for the car behind us! It turned out to be a young mother and her baby in the back of the car. She pulled up beside us and honked and smiled! It was such a little thing and she had a HUGE smile on her face! It's amazing what we feel when someone does something so small for us out of pure kindness!
WOOHOO!!!!
Well Jeff Im glad to see your feeling better today =) I hope you will stick around after your recovery! Then you can always do a random act of kindness =) So many people leave and we never hear from them again that was very hard for me in the beginning =(
I'm with theeagle.....go for it!!!!!!
Not sure if it is the forum that is powerful - - I would like to think that the forum gets its power from a huge pool of great people that do something very good for no recognition or payback.....just personal satisfaction from doing a good thing......much like the "random acts of kindness" idea - - I like the idea and the philosophy .......go for it!
