Fun at the Pride Parade!!!

So the Mrs. and me went out to the Gay Pride march here in NYC (which we haven't done in a few years) and had an overall fabulous time!

more than any other parade in NYC, this parade seems to create a solidarity of feeling and goodwill, not to mention high spirited fun!

I was surprised at how many floats/ groups were politically oriented, with politicians right down to the comptrollers marching in the parade.

All in all, a fun time for all!!!

I have been to a few and they are great for the most part.  I love being around my people...being able to hold hands with my wife and not worry about people staring or giving looks.  I dont agree with everything that goes on, but I enjoy all the wonderful parts and even participated this year.  I posted about it with a pic of Sally and me.

Check it out.

My wife is big on combat boots. I still have a pair of British WWII style knee high black combat boots i wear. Very comfortable. :-)

mangee, if anyone ever accuses me of being gay my response is generally a version of the following;

"I'm absolutely gay! in fact, my wife of 18 years is absolutely gay as well!  We're just taking a break from being gay so we can be involved in a committed heterosexual marriage!" :->

That or I ask them if they're gay. If they aren't, why are they so obsessed with if I'm gay or not? I know i'm an attractive guy and all, who could turn a straight man gay with my devestating good looks, but I'm not really interested!
I then offer to hook them up with one of my gay friends if they keep going on about it. ;-)

got two pairs of fry boots I bought in the early 80's. real USA made ones. I prize them and keep the up to snuff. Jim Morrison wore them, so did the boys in the Velvet Underground, Buffalo Springfield and a bunch more.

Red Wings work boots, ones that have actually been worn in from work, are the bomb too.

still wear em.

as for the parade, they do get permits right? its sounds like a trip to me......

i guess growing up in the greater new york area during the punk era has led to my preference for combat boots. been wearing them since before the military and still love them today(even though my kids make fun of me and folks wonder about my sexual orientation when i have them on. and yes i blouse them into my combat fatigues, thank you very much). i like the st. patrick's day parade the best as long as nobody drives onto the sidewalk that is. being wiccan that's a whole other can of worms(snakes) but i digress. peace and clarity, sway

Fry boots here too! My new ones are now 3 years old and look great!!

Really don't care one way or the other about gay pride. To each there own. Who am I to judge?

Yeah being gay doesn't mean dressing up foolishly and basically acting stupid in public, I've never quite understood it myself.

It's not Private when you are Parading in the Streets........that's all I will say....

My heart goes out the the gays that want to be taken seriously in life, when these mockery of fools are depriving them of it........

I do not take sides in this due to the fact that no matter what you have to say there is always someone who will take offense. As a matter of fact, when I was in my twenties I happened to be invited to a gay meeting amongst some German Canadians. When I mentioned this to a long time friend, his eyes opened wide, he shook his head and asked me if I was nuts. I told him, 'no', that the person who invited me was a friend and  that was that. Well, he kept on about it for a while so I just walked away. Later some of my so called friends started whispering and nodding there heads towards me when they thought I wasn't looking. I confronted my soon to be ex friend about it and it led to some serious shouting, mostly on his part and once again I turned to walk away. He made the mistake of putting his hand on my shoulder in an attempt to turn me around. Well, turn I did. I was known for having a short temper and this was one of those times so I clocked him and then walked away. This ended my friendship with him and a few of my other so called friends. For quite a long time I was considered gay. I neither denied or confirmed it which left them scratching their heads. People like that need confirmation and proof one way or the other otherwise they can't go around pointing the finger and intelligent people couldn't care one way or the other. I often wondered what kind of conversations went around when they found out I had gotten married. Since that time I have nothing to say in the matter. My friends are my friends regardless and if anyone  has something to say about who are my friends and who should be I quickly suggest that they get lost. In other words ,when it starts to get personal, go talk to someone who cares. I will not be coaxed into a debate about who is right or who is wrong on this subject. Talk to me about world affairs, music, movies etc., but don't try to corner me on something as personal as a persons private life. It is none of my business and definitely not anyone elses.

My Fry boots lasted me for a decade. I'm going to have to get around to getting a new pair.
they are definitely proof that excellent quality products exist, if you know where to hunt.

Oh, my wife just said the point of an AIDS walk is to walk (fund raise), not look good.

I just told her that if she said that in a room full of Gay men... they'd fall over laughing at her innocence. :->

I did one AIDS walk way back when, nd that sounds like the right church. I have to say I hated it. it was hot, sticky, and my feet hurt like heck. I copped out after half the distance. Probably becuase I was wearing a pair of stylin' fry boots. I'd dressed to look good, not walk!!!

Heh heh, it was a fun time. I haven't been to one in quite a few years.

the funny thing is, being older I have more of a; "now, you kids play nice!!!" attitude towards all the "Little boys and girls" who are frolicking about the area. The baron is slowing down in his old age and prefers to sit on the side lines and watch others have all the fun. :->

Avisg, next year you come to NYC and you're welcome to stay with us and we'll show you the parade (and around).

Maybe we'll get lucky and you'll get to see the best part of the parade (I thought!):

The Gay S&M Leather Fireman's Organization, riding on a real firetruck and blaring the horn and siren the whole way while playing dance club music!!!

You are killing me.

I walked so many years in the gay pride parade. And every year in the Halloween parade in the village. Also the HIV 10K walk from Central Park, and back. And who can forget every October 3rd for the Saint Francis of Assissi (sp). That was at the church....damn, I forget...103rd and Amsterdam?

You are flooding me with memories...thanks buddy!
