Senate Resolution 636

I just saw an add on TV asking Obama to support Senate Resolution 636 which is titled

"Recognizing the strategic success of the troop surge in Iraq and expressing gratitude to the members of the United States Armed Forces who made that success possible."

Should he? What do you think the pros and cons of him supporting or not support it would be?

It's a fairly meaningless document. We should do a Senate Resolution Every time someone does there job???

It can be like in public schools, where they hand out an award to EVERY child, regardless of achievement.

Lets see what happens to the political situation in Iraw AFTER we pull the troops out.

Then perhaps we can see what sort of Senate Resolutions we'll be writing up and signing.

I see by the comments here that republicans are not even falling for this propaganda.  Couldn't the senate's time be better spent.

The last 4 paragraghs of this resolution:
(1) commends and expresses its gratitude to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces for the service, sacrifices, and heroism that made the success of the troop surge in Iraq possible;
(2) commends and expresses its gratitude to General David H. Petraeus, General Raymond Odierno, and Ambassador Ryan Crocker for the distinguished wartime leadership that made the success of the troop surge in Iraq possible;
(3) recognizes the success of the troop surge in Iraq and its strategic significance in advancing the vital national interests of the United States in Iraq, the Middle East, and the world, in particular as a strategic victory in a central front of the war on terrorism; and
(4) recognizes that the hard-won gains achieved as a result of the troop surge in Iraq are significant but not yet permanent and that it is imperative that no action be taken that jeopardizes those gains or dishonors the service and sacrifice of the men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made those gains possible.

#1 Is the thanks to the troops.
#4 is saying if Obama signs this, he is agreeing to keep the troops there.

NO, OBAMA SHOULD NOT SIGN THIS.

Has anyone read this resolution? All it is is a big Thank you card, saying Bush and his cronies were right. There is one small paragraph in this hugh resolution, thanking the troops. Slime ball Lieberman has put this threw and only 28 others have signed it.
It is a do-nothing resolution. It is definately a political ploy to put Obama on the spot. It should be titled "Good Boy Bush, Love from your devote followers, Lieberman & McCain".
Since when do they go threw all this to thank the troops? It's all about Bush and his buddies.

I agree with you. The Government should not have to bail you out. Unless it's Bear Stearns, Indy Mac, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac or the other huge Corporations they have bailed out lately.

Bush starting the war in Iraq is the biggest blunder in US history. Obama was against it.
The way Rumsfeld and Bush and the Republican led House and Senate fought the war was a complete disaster. The so called surge ( which was just an escalation of the occupation) to control this huge disaster has brought things under control, for now. Soooooooooooo, the Republicans want a big pat on the back. Put Obama on the spot. If he points out the obvious, then say he doesn't support the troops. Senator John McCain has a horrible voting record when it comes to the troops and veterans. This is just more Republican BS to gather a few more votes. COUNTRY FIRST.

With all the **** going on in this country the senate is spending time on these types of resolutions.  It's crazy !   I'm not saying that our troops don't deserve a HUGE thank you, THEY DO !  Like Paul said this is all a political ploy using our troops !  It's shameful !

Yes he should....He could use it as a chance to show that he is not a left wing SP with his site set on wealth distrubution.
I think people should be able to do whatever they want and should be left alone...to be a success or a failure. The government should not be needed to bail you out.  I bust my butt 14 hrs a day 6 days a week to make sure that my family and i will make it. The guy down the street has lost 3 jobs in the last couple months b/c they were to hard and he is doing better on wellfare and food stamps and selling drugs........WTF

Looks to me like a political ploy with two purposes: 1) To recognize the success and thank the troops and 2) Put Obama on the spot.

I don't think he will. I think one of his character flaws is the ability to admit he is wrong. He clearly has shown that trait many times.  Personally, I don't like using our troops as a political ploy, but unfortunately its hunting season and its all out war.

I know this is bad....but I've not been following politics this election...I've been watching Handy Manny, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and My Friends Tigger & Pooh. Out of them I would vote Handy Manny b/c he can fix it right. LOL

Seriously Vic...good question...but I really don't know...and yes I know I should pay more attention but I haven't. I will ask my brother and sister their opinion when it comes time. (horrible isn't it? i normally follow better though)
