Third person thinking...

Does anyone else find themselves refering to themselves or thinking of themselves in the third person when they are either using or getting clean? I always think of me as 'me' when I'm using (I had a bad day and I needed those extra 10 pills this p.m.') but always think of myself in the third person when I'm trying to be clean  ('Greatgreebo is doing well today, they should be proud of themselves).....I've realized as of late that I do this. I think it is part of my problem. I think of 'using me' as me and when I'm off the pills I think of myself in the third person rather than saying "I'm doing well today"................Actually, I'm sure this is part of my problem.

Like I said, I'm just wondering if others find themselves doing this.....

Are you okay?

Your words are troubling. I don't know what you took, but I hope you are okay.

Not being harsh, not being mean, but stoves don't dance unless there is an earthquake or other natural disaster, and unless you are using Slang, "sandy" is not something we can understand.

Trippie!  I do not think that I actually refer to myself in third person but I do look at my using life as surreal no realistic memories.....Well, I am glad you are hanging in there!  I too have to go....I will try and catch you later!

I think with time you'll see it stops on its own.  Of course, if it doesn't you can talk to a professional about it.  But if there aren't any real underlying issues (severe anxiety, depression, ptsd) it should resolve itself.  :)

Actually now that I'm thinking about it I'm pretty sure that's called depersonalization and can happen after you stop using drugs.

Yes, I did that for a while - I think they call it 'disassociation" or maybe it's "depersonalization" and I believe it's common in the beginning.  In my case, I think it was because I replaced my real identity with the fake identity I created when I was taking all those pills.  I lost who I really was, and thought the new "high" me was the real me.  I have since found out how wrong I was.  I'll take this new, "boring" version of myself any day over that fake sense of self.  But as I said, I believe I read that it's pretty common to experience this.  And that feeling did go away if that helps?
