We lost our puppy dog today

Today, I watched our puppy, basically our kid get mauled to death. I tried to get to her in time, and I am beating myself up over this because I think of all the "what if's". She wanted to play with the new dogs next door, and when she got the chance (which is my fault for letting her out of my site) she dug a hole, went to their fence and the dogs drug her through. They took her to the middle of the yard and tore her apart. There were 4 pit bulls, so even with her fighting back thinking they were playing to rough and even when she rolled over all bloody to show submission, they still tore her apart.

I will miss my dog Reese, she was my wife's and my child (I don't think we can have kids of our own), RIP Reeses penut butter cup. I love you and I am sorry.

Thank you, and I hear you loud and clear. My friends pit named 'Zeus" is a lovable dog that I grew up with......or vice-versa and I think it's a shame that people do these things to pits to turn them into mean animals. I hope you had a chance to check out "Reeses Law". Thank you again, I hope to have Reeses Law passed so I can show my respect and love to Reese (who is up there with her underbite showing) and to help dogs regardless of how big they are.

I am so sorry about your lose this is just horrible!!! Something like this should NEVER happen. I own dogs and I dont know what I would do if I seen something this horrific!

But just remember just cause there pitbulls doesnt make them a criminal...Im more then sure the owners had treated them the wrong way and raised them the wrong way so there nature is what they did. Just make sure they investigate into how the OWNERS are training them and see if there training them accordingly how pitbulls are SUPOSED to be trained. I have owned tons of pitbulls in my life and not one has EVER hurt a person, aninaml, child etc....Pitbulls arent vicious on there own...People usually train them into being vicious or DONT train them accordingly.

Im am SO SORRY about your loss, I hope all goes well and maybe someday you guys can find another doggy to help fill the gap just a little bit.

This is such a wonderful thing to do in Reese's memory, saving other families & pets from this horrendous loss shows your generous spirit.   Care2 is a great resource for getting others to support this important cause.

Thank you Jimmy. All the people here helped alot, except for the poor person lost that wandered into Reeses thread...........hope he finds the right place.

Anyways, it's kind of odd, because even though I am getting over it slowly, even me jumping into a yard with 4 pit bulls and only having cinderblocks as a weapon, I still feel I did not do everything I could.

I appreciate the kind words though.

I can't even began to imagine the pain you're in . I am so sorry for the loss of your friend and pet . That brought a tear to this Navy SEALs eyes . Pit bulls are a menace to society by no fault of their own ! People breed them that way . Again so sorry and I hope you find some peace that you were a good companion to your pet..peace . Jimmy

No, the investigation is over. One of their dogs was put down, the one the lady said "we didn't want it anyways".

I just finished the NON political "Reeses law" and will start trying to get signitures on a petition tomorrow.

I will post it here, anyone with information on how I can change it to make it better please let me know.

                                                                                             Reeses Law
In December of 2008 a dog was born who is the love of my wife and my life. We named her Reese. She was a shiz tsu, yorkie,
dachsand mix, and cuter than we could imagine. She also gave us more joy and love than we could have imagined. Many people at some time
in their life find an animal or animals that they grow to love as we do and have a special bond with that animal/s. We have support, compassion,
unconditional love, and peace from these animals. It is because of them that even the lonliest of people are able to have companions in life.

On 3/25/2011 Reese was able to find five minutes to get out of our yard. Recently people had moved next door to us and had 5 dogs.
From the second that these dogs got there all Reese wanted to do is play with them. She grew up her whole life with big dogs, so she had thought
that she was a big dog. She was playful, and wanted to welcome the dogs to the neighborhood. So after she got out of our yard, she went over
to the front fence of the next door neighbors house. She no doubt had wanted to get in the gate, but the space under the gate was to little. She
got to close to the gate though. When her collar and head was close enough to these dogs, they grabbed her and pulled her into their yard.
Although we do not have positive proof such as a picture or video, anyone could tell that because of the area under the gate, and because there
was no dig marks on the outside of the fence. She was drug inside into their yard, and she found out very quickly that they did not want to play.
They started to rip at her, and tear her apart. My father in law knocked on our bedroom door and asked if Reese was with us, we replied that she
was not, and he said "I think she is getting hurt outside". I put on my slippers joking "he is probably hearing her chirp on the inside of our fence".
I went out there not thinking anything was wrong, I was wrong. I then heard before I could see her "they are killing her". I freaked out and ran
over to the fence and saw my dog being torn up. I felt a incredible sense of hoplessness. I was seeing my girl, my precious animal companion
dying in front of my eyes in a gruesome sickening way. I picked up a stick and threw it at the dogs, it did nothing, I threw a ball at them, it did
nothing. It was at this point, I lost it. I jumped both fences barefoot and when I got to the other side, I picked up a centerblock. I wanted to throw
it at them, but Reese was in the middle so I tossed it as close as I could. She layed on her back, I thought she was dead, I was surrounded by
pit bulls, and I didn't know how to get her. I gave up. Then my father in law came into the yard from the fence with a pipe, he didn't care if she
dead or not, he had a weapon, and he was getting her, period. When he used the pipe to fight off the dogs, I saw Reese sit up, she wasn't dead.
I then took the opurtunity to go and pick her up, I didn't know how to carry her because I did not know what her major wounds were. I yelled to
my wife to get into the truck, that we were going to the animal hostpital. I had my shorts and shirt with no shoes. My wife had a pair of sweat pants
with a night shirt, we both rushed to the hospital. On the way to the hospital, I could feel Reese struggling for breath. I knew something was really
wrong, she was also bleeding from her lower stomach and I didn't know if I should put my finger over the hole or not. I just kept telling her, "your
okay girl, your okay, it's okay, don't worry". Her tail wagged, she KNEW, her dada and moma was with her. She then lost conciousness. I was
watching the road, and then looked down and gently shook her. I said "wake up baby girl, stay awake, it will be okay'. She opened her eyes and
I could tell it was bad, she had the most saddest look on her face, but she was still alive. We got there to the hospital, her blood had soaked my shorts
I ran into the hospital and somewhat yelled "please, help her, she was mauled by four big dogs". They took her to the back. We found out from
the vet about 13 minutes later that she had a punctured lung and a punctured intestine. There was very very little to no hope for her. I took my wife
home and her parents paid to have her put down, so that she wasn't suffering anymore. Through all of it, she KNEW that her dada and grandpa
went into a yard with five dogs to get her, and she knew on the trip to the hospital, that her moma and dada had her.

Two days after, an invisible fence was put up, by the whole family. While my wife and I were in the front yard, we looked over to the
area where she was drug under to her grisly death. I was thinking "seven bricks" and as I was thinking that my wife said "seven bricks and our
baby would still be alive, if they would have just put down seven bricks, we would still have our Reese". Now of course we can't put all the blame
on those dogs because Reese was outside our fence, she had gotten out under the fence through a hole. So this law I propose is not just for the
people with over aggresive dogs, it is also to help people who have dogs that are safe if they are not able to get out. Some people would call this
law harsh for people who own animals, I would say that harsh is watching your beloved companion ripped to shreds in front of your eyes. I don't
think it's an unreasonable law, I think it protects both the possibly vicious and the innocent. It puts forth further measures so that tradgedies that
happen all across the world don't have the same chance to happen.

Reeses Law is simple, and I am no polotician. It would state that if you have outside animals, specifically dogs, that it is the owners
responsiblity to make sure their land is secure so that the animals cannot get out, and other animals cannot get in, or worse, drug in. It would give
a fine of $500.00 for the first offense and $1000.00 dollars for the second. As I said, it seems harsh, but it saves lifes and greive. Seven bricks and
Reese would still be alive. This of course is not the legal worded law, it is just the base. If I can get enough signitures, then I am sure I can put
together the law enough so that I can make a legit law to go forth before the council and higher if needed of our area. This would include "Fort
Mohave, Az" but could stretch to also "bullhead city Az". If I can get this petition signed, then many people who have small animals who by
accident get out, are safe from being mauled to death. It also keeps those loved animals safe from being stolen to a great degree and almost
completely from being hit and killed even by cars. The last thing it does, is keep possibly vicious dogs from being put down because it is in their
nature for what ever reason to kill those smaller and weaker physically than them.

i actually owned to pit bulls in my life but agree with all now on the issue of licensing and paying for insurance and the other requirements needed to be established to own one. i actually wish they would outlaw them in populated areas. this is not the first episode of them killing other dogs but they actually maul humans as well. a little boy had half his face tore off three months ago here in my town and the month before that a lady was arrested for shooting one that ran on her property towards her daughter then attacked and mauled a goat tied up in her yard. she had all charges dropped later in court but the arrest was insane. i feel for ur lil dog it makes me sad to think he just wanted to play and dug under the fence. if they do that to a dog what will they do with a small child. is there no place u can start an investigation into this to see what can be done?

Oh God!  I'm so sorry Joseph!  It's just terrible for you!  Don't blame yourself although I know it's hard not to...I don't like Pit Bulls. I was on the receiving end of a bad one a few years ago and it was ugly, to say the least.  I'm really sorry for you two...

So sorry for your loss. The bond between man and dog (actually, any animal) is so very special and there is no other bond like it. I can't imagine seeing something so horrific and feeling so helpless. You can't blame yourself though. God always has a plan and it doesn't just pertain to humans.

Times like this is when family and loved ones are so important. Lean on each other for support and you all will get through this even though it doesn't seem possible right now.

Hang in there.

Oh my gosh! This is so very sad. I understand how your feeling right now. We lost our beloved Spike 6 years ago. My husbands friend was coming up our driveway and ran over him. He was a tiny Chi but he made it to the animal hospital. He died soon after we got there. I was so mad at my husband because he was standing there and saw it all happen. There was not one thing he could have done. I hated his friend for what he did. It was not his fault. He cried like a baby. It was all an accident but I blamed myself for even letting Spike outside.
What your feeling is completely normal. To blame yourself. But it's not your fault. There was nothing you could have done. You have to believe this.
I'm a huge animal lover but I believe if dogs can kill another dog they should be put to sleep, no matter what breed they are. They could do this again.
I'm so very sorry for what you and your wife are going through right now. My thoughts and prayers are with you.    Corena

That's isn't cool, but some people don't know what to say or do in times of loss.  Some also don't understand the connection you get with your dog. I completely do.  I loss my dog Daisie years ago and don't have the heart to get another.  I buried her somewhere I can still go and visit.  Just grieve with your wife n you'll be ok

Thank you. It's odd, we have all these facebook "friends" and we put a memorial post for Reese up with a perfect picture of her, it captured her personality.........and it's like people who are our "friends" don't even care.

Thank you though............reaching out to people because I don't feel safe in my skin. I am not suicidal, just soooo lost right now. She was our baby girl.
