I have foud reading the bb of aa has explained very thoroughly about faith in a power greater than myself which to me is certainly a god in the heavens or possibly in some spiritual world so far past my own understanding as I have a finite mind and God is certainly infinite so I am not even close to trying to figure out god but i still try search me. LOL But anyway the bb talks of faith and how we actually live by faith when we don't even realize it we have faith in so many finite things so actually we are living by faith. You should read it I think it is the third chapter if my memory serves me correctly.

Please do not leave this forum. I found your words to be inspirational, and you seem to have an open mind and heart. Some of us need to hear all the nice things we can right now.

To begin with, I did not and I think I said I was no better than a person that took their last drink or drug. Too many times we get hung up on words as they relate to a different program. Whatever it takes to keep a person free from any type of drug or alcohol, then I am for it. I do not force my way on others because it may just push them away. On the other hand, if I feel I should then I willtell how I have made it day by day.Alcohol and drugs are both addictions and yes they both can kill. I choose to be there for others and let them know they are good people. Like myself, they may have made a bad choice that just snowballed. Please forgive me, if I chose the wrong words to convey my feelings. I realize that maybe I do not need to be here on this forum. NEVER would I want to say the wrong thing or use the wrong words that might cause someone undue pain and suffering. For now I think I will back out and depart.  Madlyn

The NA steps are giving me a new freedom!!!, I am doing my 6th step right now! I just admitted to myself, God and another person the exact nature of my wrongs(STEP 5). I feel as if the whole weight has been lifted of of me .I can't tell you enough of how these steps have changed my life.I had to become aware of how my life was unmanageable, then  I learned that my disease manifests itself it all other areas of my life and to learn about what they are and the tools to help me change has been totally life changing . I am a truly happy person today and so glad that I am clean and sober just for today cause that is all I have is just today. I wish you all the best and bless you on your journey. Take it easy on yourself, you didn't become addicted in one day.Living in the moment and not worrying about tomorrow or yesterday is what has helped me.

NA is a life saver!!!!!! I have four years clean of using 40 tabs a day mixed with herion, crack, tramedol, anything you can think of....just like this site...it's one addict identifying and helping another addict. We see how other people got through things and knew if they can do it we can do it. It's an awesome things. and those 12 steps.....everyone needs em...not just addicts. It's all about applying those steps in your life along with the spiritual principles. That program changes lifes. And yes, step tow....higher power...we all need one cause we can't do this alone. Have faith...get to a meeting and don't leave before the miracle happens!

Some people where I'm at , including myself, are having a hard time getting past step 2. It's hard to think a Higher Power can help you when you're still pretty much out of it...=( I got a handout sheet on 7 reasons we get stuck and denial. I wish I could remember where I put it. Does anyone know what they might be? If I find the paper, I'll post it. It made a lot of sense at the time, but I am REALLY stuck in a rut!..cat

The fact that you asked in my opinion shows that you ARE interested. I was unable toget back to you last night for when I could, then website was down for updates. If you are able to attend any meetings then do so. I do not know your circumstances. In our area and within maybe 50 miles, one can find a meeting at just about anytime. When you attend get #'s galore, for when you need to physically speak to someone you will have numbers. My faith and my Bible had been placed to the side while I was using. During detox and rehab. I renewed my relationship with my higher power. Once that was done, I went to the trunk of my car and there was my Bible, right where I had left it. Many times I would see it when I would go into trunk, but I would turn away from it.I had done the same for God. Just as my Bible had been there all along and when I chose to reach for it, so was God.I am sharing this with you because I first had to have a clear mind before "I" could even comprehend and hear God speak to me. By studying and following the 12 steps of AA/NA  it allowed me to draw closer to my higher power and learn to lean on him. By doing this I have been sober and clean 25 years this past July '08. I am not bragging. I know that I am just like the person who has been without a drink/drug for an hour or even less. I am 1 drink/drug away from disaster or even death. It is by God's grace that I am here today. I wish you the best and if ever I can help you, know I am here for you as are many other caring and non-judgemental people on this site. Love ya and will be remembering you in my prayers. The fact you are reaching out to others for help ---that is the first step--you are admitting you need help. Blessings as you recover.   Madlyn

I recently bought an NA book for only like 12 or 15 bucks....I admit I havent read alot of it yet but i am finishing my other books first. The other books I am reading have really gotten be thru alot. While I was in detox I read the book "just beyond the clouds" it is very inspirational. A book I am reading now that is wonderful is called "the purpose driven life" and it basically tells you that God has a purpose for you even if you don't know what it is. I highly suggest picking up this book and reading it, it really is helpful!!!!!

I found these on an NA website.

1.      We admitted that we were powerless over our addiction, that our lives had become unmanageable.

2.      We came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

3.      We made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

4.     We made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

5.      We admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

6.      We were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

7.      We humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

8.      We made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.

9.      We made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

10.      We continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.

11.      We sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.

12.      Having had a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to addicts, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

If my memory serves me correct ( and it has all but left me), the 12 steps for NA are pretty similar if not the same as those for AA. Please, someone correct me if I am wrong. In the meantime I will seek to make sure and let you know. I went to NA 25 years ago but focused solely on AA. Alcohol and drugs both were a problem for me. My DOC--whatever I could get. All my drugss were "MD prescribed", which didn't mean a "hill of beans". How I chose to take them was the problem for me. Will get back after some research.  Madlyn
