ADDICTION TO PAINKILLERS

I'm going crazy!  I've been on perkocet, vicodin, oxycodin, and roxicodone for almost a year. Just recreational use.  I do have kidney stones and I was prescribed perkocet, and then i began to abouse it.  I usulally pop 15 or more a day because I dont get the effects.  When the pills ran out- I was unable to sleep, I was irriated, I had fever, and I had chills like for 3 days really bad.  I did not know they were withdrawls because I did not know the pain meds could give you such a thing. I should have researched it sooner. Anyway, the case is that I dont have the money to go into a rehab and I want to and need to get off of them, they are controlling my life.  As I write I have chills, I keep crying, etc.  Noone can know about this, I have a 6 year old little girl, and I need to work and go to school eveyday as I usually do. I DONT HAVE THE ENERGY. I DONT FEEL LIKE LIVING.... this is worse than death itself.  Im trying to tamper off... If I did atleast 30 pills a day... how to I begin unwinding?  I cant stand the pain C/T..... please somebody help me.

Listen, the reason you are in so much pain is because you are dropping your dose way too quickly. With a proper taper, you should drop your use by 10% every 3-4 days. This way, your body won't be missing as much of the opiate, meaning...when you drop too much like that, your body/mind go into shock as it is realizing its not getting the normal amount of opiates it needs to function. By dropping little bits at a time, it doesn't realize it as much therefore you won't have that much w.d. It should work and it should be fairly comfortable and not bad at all. By what you are doing, you are better off just going cold turkey. You sound like you are really suffering. That is not what you want to do at all. My advice it to go back up a bit until you are at least out of w.d. NOT HIGH, just out of w.d, then wait a few days then drop by 10% and that is it. Yes, it takes a while, but it will be much easier then what you are doing. Either do that or just stop now altogether and just get through the next 4-5 days then it will be over altogether. We are here for you either way. Good luck..

Why does this not get easier?  I'm down to ten a day- I use to take 30 or more..... it's bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I took 1/ 1/2 this am and now I took 4, and it's 9am... my body is shivering I feel that I need it guys.... it's really bad.... How do I work around 10 pills a day and how often and for how long?  All you guys, from my heart, I appreciate your help... you guys are all I have... no one knows about my addication. My mom kinda has an idea that I'm on pills because of the symptoms of w/d that I get but I tell her that's my kidneys,, but she told me that she use to have an adiction to pills and she knows that Im on pills. I dont want to admit it to her-because I AM  embarassed.  Although, I do have a good relationship with my mother, but that fact that Im a very pretty gay women and she cant concieve that, I feel that it's enough pain for her already upon her... and I just dont feel like a good person, although we can all fall into something and we are all addicted to something that takes away the pain..... Please, anyone, help me... in anyway... I live in Miami.....

I had heard that reducing by 10% a week was a good schedule. Not to fast that you feel lousy all the time.  It is when you try to go down to fast that you end up screwing up.  If you to fast the withdrawal will be to bad and then you will take more just to feel better.  So slow and steady wins the race.  I don't this from first hand knowledge but just from reading posts on here from people who have been there and done that.  So I hope one of them comes on soon and can either confirm what I said or tell you a better way.  Good luck and keep posting.

No-one has given advice on a tapering plan yet! This person has to work, look after her daughter, and can't take time off, so please, you former taperers, please post your suggestions!

All I can offer is: delay your first dose, cut down by maybe 10% tomorrow, and let's hope the right people jump in here.

You can reduce the amount you're taking now -- gradually -- and then we can get to a plan, whether it be c/t or Suboxone/Methadone. Just take less; wait till you're fairly uncomfortable before you pop. What's your current regimen?

Of course, if you have a doctor who can handle this, that's your best bet.

Don't panic, and, though it's annoying, start reducing your dose. Whichever route you take afterward, it will be easier.

okay...take a deep breathe, close your eyes...breathe in thro your nose and out thro your mouth...bring the air all the way to the bottom of your stomach and ribcage

I was just at that place you are in now, read my posts...it will get better i promise and you are more than halfway there from the physical wds.

keep breathing deep...try to calm your body down because your body is stressed from being starved of its favorite neurotransmitter that youve been feeding it...Control is what you need to take back, control of your life and thats what you are moving forward towards.

If this message helped you in any way please feel free to send me a message and I'll send you some more coping skills...hang in there girl youre gunna be okay I promise.

Don't panic.  You came to the right place.  I don't have experience myself in tapering but there are alot of people here that know what to do and how to help. Be patient ( i know that's hard to do when you feel like ****) someone will be on soon with some great advice for you just keep checking.  You might get more responses in the evening as people might be at work today.  So hang in there and if you feel like crying just cry i find it helps reduce stress and just makes me feel better to have a good cry.
