methadone andbabys

i am thirty weeks pregnant and on                                 130mlksof methadone  i have spoken to my drugs worker but dont really understand why i am being told that breast feeding is best surely this just prolongs withdrawal plse tell me

Im 38 weeks pregnant and am on methadone, Peds have told me to BF as ity helps with neonatal abstinance. Good Luck

I dont know about the methadone but i do know other drugs and alcohol will be passed to the baby.  I nursed both of mine and had to be careful with what i took,ate and drank.  sara

Not an expert on breast feeding......but I believe that the breastfeeding is similar to the fetal blood barrier ...... not necessarily everything that goes in your body crosses that barrier to the fetus.......so Mom can have something in system and not the child. And the actual concentration of a metabolite in breast milk would be very low.... So the counselors most likely do know what they are talking about. Should maybe listen to them.....
