Addiction - Substance Abuse Question

I was wondering if there is a Dr out there that can explain to me in detail why I obsess over using opiates and what I might can do to stop the obsession of wanting to use!! Today is my first day off of opiates and I just want to be educated a little on why I obsess over it constantly.

I'm not a doctor, and no one here on this forum is, but I can tell you that the obsession stops at some point.  Impossible to say when.  It lessens slowly over time.  Aftercare helps.  Not relapsing helps.  When you relapse, it resets the clock.  That is one of the reasons I have worked so hard to keep it from happening to me this time.

What might help right now is getting out and exercising and getting fresh air and staying busy.  That should be easy to do this time of year!!!! : )

Good luck!

Cant wait to hear what the docs gotta say!  You know that good feeling you get from being around your kids or getting a loving hug from them. Pills hit that same part of the brain. No wonder we all obsess over it. yeah First day! You only got do that day one time. Thankgod right. You can do it. Those pills take over your mind. Ive focused on how it affected my body that I never really took the time to wonder what it was doing to my mind. With afew clean days under my belt Ive noticed the huge impacts on my mind. Scary. Really. Be glad your doing this now. The obssesion is the drugs ace in the hole. It gets better it really does. Give time a chance. I know its hard.
