Methadone Taper

I am going on a methadone taper. I started at 85 and have gone down 5 a week. I am now at 45 and have not had any withdrawls yet. I just started on methadone in September but I feel it is damaging my liver. I am a Hep C survivor and as soon as I started the methadone I started getting old symptoms from when I had Hep C. My plan was to go down 5 a week to 0. I was wondering if someone out there has had experience with a taper this fast? Was considering going down 2 a week after I hit 20 after reading some of these posts. My thing is I cant miss much work. Any help would be appreciated.

hey dude..I think you plan sounds solid just depends on where you plan on jumping off
mr.lucky66 probably has the most experience and clean time ..my self I walked it down to 0 but if I had to do it over again I would jump off at 5ml the last 5ml su@#ed ..to taper
down to going by 2ml when you hit 20 is smart it will reduce the withdrawals
if you go below 10 go 1ml a week till you hit 5..then I would jump good luck with whatever you decide there are many ways to get off methadone choose the one that suits you best...best of luck to you and keep posting where all here to help...Gnarly

I'm a former methadonian and I never heard too many bad things about methadone and liver and also have hep C. It isn't good for it but not  nearly as bad as some other meds, from what docs have told me. Concerning the taper, you can take it as slow as you want but once you get below about 15 mg. , you can walk off off it and there isn't any real difference between that and a long slow taper except slow tapers take longer. Addiction docs also say there isn't any real difference difference . There are some new easier protocals that some private clinics have that make it easier. The most important thing is to know that it's not that bad (in most cases) , it just takes longer and it will end. all the best
