Will I die from stopping hydrocodone cold turkey, no health issues thar i am aware of?

12 and a half hours in !! Im still hanging in here!Today has been tough but I AM tougher! I have met a new friend that has helped more than words can ever express!! Several hot soaks already today. My back and head have been killing me but nothing too much to handle! I will be here for the long haul so please stay with me! I NEED YOU!!

I was 60 when I stopped cold turkey (no will power to taper) and survived.  I did follow much of the Thomas Recipe and kept hydrated and tried to eat.  Sleep and energy are the biggest problems.  Sometimes you wish you could die just to get some rest, but it passes and eventually gets better.  I was about where you are in amount.  

One thing, I did tell my doctor and with her help finally got clean.  I relapsed a few times prior.  That served two purposes, she gave me some supportive and non addictive meds to help and cut off my source.  It made all the difference.  Having your doctor in the loop may help more than just about anything else.  Just a thought.  Whatever you do, keep coming here for help and support (good and bad news).  I promise it helps so much.

It's up to you about the Benzo. Some people take something like that, for just a few days, to get over the hump.  The concern is always cross addiction...

It's very unusual to have a seizure during opiate detox. It's happened at large doses but not often. You don't really take a large dose and it's great that you're stopping now before it REALLY gets out of control!

I have never taken anything but Lortabs. A friends advised me to take a benzo to get thru this just for the night so I could get some rest, is that not a good idea? Thank yall so much for being here for me!

It may feel like it, but you won't die from going cold turkey. A doctor's visit may help with your concerns. I take meds for high blood pressure, and continued to do so during my detox.
You actually may be saving your life by getting clean.

I don't hear about it much. Overdose death is much more common. I would consult a doctor for sure. The short answer is "unlikely" , but you may feel like you were for a day or so....

Hi Betsee.. Welcome to the forum.. as long as you are not taking a Benzo and you are only using opiates you will not die from wd. I had wd off 25 to 30 norco a day it was rough but I survived and could not have been more Grateful to be free of my active addiction !! I was a mess in the end and no longer had any control over my life. You came to the right spot for support many of us have done it and many like you are just starting. How much were you taking?  Is your doctor aware of what you are doing?
