Hi Windy,  My thoughts are with you. I'm 61 and coming off a similar dosage. It's only 48 hours for me, but just thought I'd let you know that you're not alone. Last year, I "took myself off" taking Xanax. I pretty much lived on broth and easy to digest foods. I'm gearing up for a similar experience,  but hope it will not be as bad ( I was on the Xanex for many years!) Here's hoping that you're starting to feel better.

Windy, don't let anyone put you on Tramadol. the dr. will tell you it's not addictive but it is. It's worse coming off it than the hydrocodone. I was on hydrocodone 10mg. I took 3 to 5 a day. I also have back problems. I have now been off all meds 7 1/2 months. I go in for L5 nand L1 fusion and some cleaning up, July 16. They put me on Metoprolol Tartrate 25 twice a day. It's eating up my stomach so I'm going to call and get them to change meds. I'm beginning to think at my age what the heck, If I take the pain killers as per script what difference will it make. I'm going to take the meds after the surgery and see what happens. I would talk to my dr. if I were you. You shouldn't have to live in pain at your age.

" I had no idea that it was wrong the doctor gave me the prescriptions so I took them like he prescribed them.  I now wish I had never gone to the doctors in the first place."

I understand how one can regret going on opiates when it comes time to come off of them, but don't second guess that you had a need for them.  It wasn't wrong at all, your doctor was treating your pain hon.

I would strongly recommend getting some help and guidance from your doctor, simply because of your age and your preexisting condition (ulcer).  You want to do this as safely as possible, plus there are non habit forming medications a doc can prescribe to help ease the w/d symptoms.

I'm so sorry you're going through this, keep talking to us, and know that you WILL get through this, it just takes some time.

First thank you from my heart, I have been taking hydrocodione 10/325 2 a day for 6 weeks after 3 spinal fusion surgery.  Before the surgery I took 5 / 325 four times a day for two years after I had lumber surgery in 2010.  I had no idea that it was wrong the doctor gave me the prescriptions so I took them like he prescribed them.  I now wish I had never gone to the doctors in the first place.  Thanks again living in hell.

Here I am. Windy do you have any heart problems? Rapid pulse? Looking back I might should have talked to a Doctor to get some help. Other than that just hang in there and get outside as much as you can, just sit in the sun.. Listen to music, watch funny TV shows, anything to get your mind off of how you feel. And please, DRINK PLENTY of WATER. There is a Thomas Recipe at the bottom of this page that has a lot of things to stock up on. The main thing is to stay as busy as you can. I'm 71 and it was hard on my body but with the Lords help and all these good people I've made it 7 1/2 months!!  I'll keep looking for you on here to see how your doing. Let's show all these young ones we still have it. ( just forgot where I put it)

As slomedz mentioned, the time that you won't be feeling well is based pretty much on what you were taking, how much you were taking daily and for how long (months, years). And - why were you taking the meds? Were they given to you by a doctor? If so, then he / she might be a great resource and can help get you through the worst.

Windy,
good for you...what you are experiencing is very normal, even for  much younger people.  Your years are advanced, so recovery may take a little longer (also depending on how long you have been on meds and at what dose you were taking).

When i last went through detox/withdrawal day four was kind of a 'hump' day for me...I found day five and forward to be much better.

try not to focus on how long it will last, as that can drive anybody nuts to obsess over.  try to focus on the fact that you already have so much time in and you are doing very well...it is a tough road.

you must force yourself to get some calories...do you have ensure?  easy to take in and digest, very good for recovery...if you can, at some point, try to take a walk, however short, get out in the sun...those things help to speed up recovery and make you feel better (the sun does good things for us in small doses).

I wish you all the luck in the world...do you have any helP?

What daily dosage are you taking? And last question is for how long have you been taking it? Im sorry for all the questions but its hard to determin how long you will be in w/d without those answers..  trev
