At home methodone detox after 25 yrs

Hi I have been on methodone for over 25 yrs a model patient, never used more, not any other drugs, and I don't drink. I'm in very good health drink juices everyday, Greens drinks in the morning for many yrs. I'm 54 and was on 65 mg. My last takehome of a moth's supply was one month ago. I dropped 15 mg, then 10 mg, 10 mg to 35. Since then I'm dropping 5 mg a time. I'm spliting my dose. After a month I'm on 10 mg 2 x a day. I'm doing very well since I found out about drinking electrolytes - I drink a home made 1/2 gal batch a day. I started taking trace minerals - that also helped. I'm taking good 1 a day pack of vit pluse good cal/mag drink. I also take 3 x a day L-Glutamine 1000mg and L-Tyrosine 500mg. I take 5-HTP 200MG & Taurine 1000mg at night, along with a SAM-E 400mg. And fish oil 3000mg a day. These things helped a lot. I hardly feel withdrawels Sleep is not normal, but not bad. I also when need it take 3mg melatonine. My plan was originally to get low as I can then take Soboxone for no more than 3 weeks, and as low as I can. If anyone has thoughts on that? How low should I try. I'm going down every 5 days. I'd like this to be over longest in three months. Besides PWS. Does it make a lot of difference jumping at 7 mg or 5, or 1mg? Is it worth the draging out? Since I'm doing so well, what about just going as low as I can 1 mg or less, and then going cold turkey? Or even lower? The problem I worry about is splitting the meth correctly, especially when I get that low! It hasn't been that bad yet. At 10mg it feels like I'm drinking nothing! I can't imagine 1mg! Lastly any other advice with things to add to my program would be appreciated. I was amazed what just drinking eletrolytes did! Anyhow thanks!

Hi I couldn't resist saying hi to everyone. I hope you all have been having a great summer, at least those of us in the northern hemisphere. Starting my 5th year clean this Sept. The yrs went by fast! I word to those thinking about starting a detox, or those in a detox, or those who have completed their detox. You can do it! I was a 25 yr plus methadone user and walked away fairly easy. If I can do it do, so can you! My hopes and prayers are with you all.
Hey jimmy the years have gone by fast. Wow going on 5 years. So happy for you. Very proud of you. Thanks for stopping by. This thread is soooooo long. Congrats to you my friend. Keep on keepin on. GOD is good.

Hi everyone I realize it's my 5th year drug free. I think I stopped totally Sept 20th 2012. Doing well I'll be 60 soon. What a blessing it was to get off of methadone. I hope you all are well and thanks again to all who supported me through my posts when I was detoxing.

Hi Jimmy!  This thread is great to read as you progressed. It's helpful to others who may need the guidance. I agree, there's inactivity on the forum these days and those of us who are still around don't like it!

Congrats on your clean time AND your health!  V.

Hi everyone oddly I messed up with my yrs clean. I started my detox at the end of June 2012 as you can see from the first posts and so this Sept will be 4 yrs clean, not 3. I think it's time to end the thread on my end. There have been few questions or posts lately. Thanks for all who helped me detox and there are many of you who truly helped me and followed this thread for almost 4 yrs. My hopes and prayers are with you all.

Yes doing very well it's been 3 yrs and 2 months doing well. Also just went for my 18th month cancer checkup. I had cancer and it was removed. The 12 month checkup was ok. When I had surgery at that time I even was on a morphine drip for 2-3 days and pain pills a few more days and had no problems - like a desire to keep taking it or them. Thanks for asking Vickie!

Hello Jimmy

I have the old format up and I see a hourglass by your name. Meaning it is a old post. Almost did not catch that you came in again.

You sound good. Happy Holidays to You too!

Hey Jimmy..maybe you can update us all by doing a new post. If you want to. Other wise it looks like you are still getting replies.

Hi azzl1 the main thing is its over for you. For me 5 mgs was so weak it almost was like drinking water. It didn't seem worth it so I also jumped off at 5. Anyhow we're all different, and the main thing is you made it.

hi there i was on methadone for 12 years i was on 50ml all that time and came down 1ml every day and jumped off at 5ml and ct the rest.i must say i would come down gradually if i was to do it again and jump off 1ml as the withdrawals were very intense for around 3 week and it took a lot longer to start sleeping properly...good luck..

Hi Josh you can do it!!! Don't listen to all the naysayers and those who complain. If you truly want off it can be done. Before you know it'll all be over and no more tided to a clinic and all that entails.

My update -
I'm enjoying summer and coming up on 3 yrs clean this Sept. All is well and my health has been fine. Recovery is possible!
I wish you all the best on your recoveries from whatever you struggle with.

Wow this has been a hell of a read, both here and on the other forum where you posted this journey.  I've been rereading parts of it daily for several days now and have shared your experience with my family and counselor as I ponder the inevitable.  Been on a high dose for 12 years, model patient as you were, havnt even drank or smoked pot.  2 months ago after 12 years of being completely stable my dose started no longer holding me.  I'm at a point now where instead of going up and feeding the monster I want to slay him, but I'm absolutely terrified, as you can relate to, or at least you could before you braved it out.  From all the stories it seems like your experience is 1 in a million though.  It is inspiring for sure though, If I do it I'll for sure document it for the community, good or bad. It's the least I could do.  Thanks

Hi everyone! I just stopped by to say hi and all is well. I actually started my detox in June which ended in Sept 3 yrs ago. It all seems like a bad memory. But the time it took and discomforts have totally faded! Went through a bout with a serious deadly disease last yr. Going for a checkup soon to make sure all is still ok. Anyhow I wish and pray the best for you all who have gone through or helped others going through detox. It can be done! See you all around Sept for my 3 year anniversary clean.
