Can I Be Hydro-free in 2008?

I've been a lurker here for months once I began to realize and admit that I was abusing, overusing, and addicted to the pain medication I was taking.

It started over a year ago with a surgery that led to an affection for the feeling the medicine gave me.  A couple of root canals and tooth extractions later, another surgery came up and more pain medication was introduced into my life.

Now, having reached the end of my Rx, I have gone from about 60mg of Hydrocodone to nothing, overnight.

I know that there is no way I can stay on these things and continue my life.

I just wonder how in the world you guys do this --- going CT and all.  It's been almost 24 hours and I already feel terrible.  I don't want to start the year feeling this way, but it would be so wonderful to be free of hydrocodone for 2008.

For the first 3 days stay close to the bed and bathroom.  Drink plenty of fluids. Don't let your mind take over and look for ways to fail.  It is not easy but you have taken the first step. You will feel like HELL for a few days. I am on day 9 c/t off morphine and vico.  believe me it will get better. Keep checking posts and get encouragement (not pills) from others. You are on your way to feeling better already.

What gets me is the mental part of the whole process.  My mind races at blazing speeds with ideas of how to get more pills.  I have family members with plenty, I could injure myself, I could fake an injury.

Thank God I have a couple of days off of work and a couple of valium for when I can't sleep.

I hate myself for getting to this point --- as I am the only one to blame.

Hello and Welcome!

Too late now..you are on your way. Try and stay positive about this. You took a huge step. In a week you will have been through the physical withdrawal and starting to let your life back.

True, it is not going to be pretty for a while, but the end result is worth every trip to the bathroom.

Hope you stick around. There is lots of good support here.
