Until last week, I had been on methadone maintenance for almost 10 years for abusing multiple opiates. It has been a life-changer. However, after an unplanned and sudden move to a state where I have no ready employment, thus not being able to pay high clinic transfer fees, I'm in limbo. The thought of getting off methadone has always frightened me, so I know I'm not ready, but, I have little choice.
This withdrawal has been much different than expected. Although I kept my dose relatively low for a long-term patient, 180mg, in case something like this happened, I know that's well above recommended Cold-Turkey quitting.
However, it has been seven days since my last dose and I am showing very few withdrawal symptoms, the most severe of which are chills. Why? Is the worst yet to come, or is that as bad as my symptoms will be? Most resources claim peak withdrawal 5-7 days after last dose, but I'm on day 8 with minimal symptoms. What is going on? I really need professional advice. Thanks in advance.
