Day 2 but have colonoscopy Thursday. scared

Hi all, 45 yo male here,  on day 2 off hydros  I have been on (4) 5/325 Hydro daily sometimes only 2 and for about 1.5 years.  I ran out Sunday and decided to go cold turkey as I could not taper.  I do have valium for the anxiety but no appetite, diarrhea and worst of all feeling restless and mad/depressed at myself.  Friday I have a colonoscopy and wondering maybe this actually might be a good thing as it will really flush me out.  This whole thing scares me.  any words of wisdom?

Well...another opinion for you to ponder...

I had a colonoscopy scheduled when I was on on day 10, and I was still in withdrawals...the doctor made me reschedule it.

The best thing would be to call your doctor's office, tell them the truth and see what they say.

Hi, welcome and congratulations on day 2! I respectfully disagree with the above posters. This is probably the best time for a colonoscopy because your colon will be clean already, and had time to rid itself of excess contents from thr constipation caused by the pills. They will make you drink a cleansing agent anyway, so you will be well prepared, lol. Drink at least a quart of water daily until then to protect from dehydration.  They will put you to sleep with propofol, a non-narcotic, and no post op pain meds are required.  Goodluck on your new journey to health. Stay with us for your detox and test. Many helpful kind folks here to help.

For sure reschedule the colonoscopy.  The meds they give you with that can make you feel more depressed.  You will feel better in a few days, i promise.  Hang in there!  The first week is the worst.

IMO I'd re schedule your apt. Unless you've already had it and you think u can handle it. When my friend went they insisted she be picked up. No driving after. I dropped her off and signed in that I was her driver to pick her up. They put her to sleep. Sometimes the anathesia can make you feel like heck. It does me.
Don't rely on it to relieve your wd symptoms. Most of the work to stay clean has to do with the mental part.
I'd suggest a strong support system. Like NA.
Congratulations on your decision to stay off opioids. There's a lot of great people to help here on medhelp.

Hey there!! I too had to cold turkey, not by choice, so I went from 60 pills one day to zero the next, yikes!! Not fun by any means, but doable. Just try to stay active and keep your mind busy. I know that's hard to do at the beginning of detox, but it really does help. Your almost through the worst of the physical withdrawals, so don't give up! The anxiety and lack of sleep is really rough to, but that will also pass in time. Sleep is usually the last thing to return to normal. Stay strong and focused and you will make it!!  Oh, and I hope all goes well with your procedure, good luck!!!  ~Sherry
