Day 6 from subs

I used sub's in  the past through the Dr and tapered way faster than he was tapering me, I was fine. That was 6 years ago. I started using them again daily about a year ago. I did snort them the whole time for the past year. I know dumb but that was the only way I could make them last, I mean I made 1last a month and the way I tapered was fine ,except I basically went to crumbs 2mondays ago and felt I was WD every day. It kept the rls away but when I jumped it came back. I was wondering would it hurt to take gabapentin for this only at night? I just don't wanna be going through a WD from anything else. Any help is much appreciated ty,Sean

Sorry for not posting sooner had a busy saturday, got out and went fishing lol didn't get home till 3 a.m.lol didn't catch a dam thing but it was fun , kept my mind off things. I was so tired though when I got home I crashed out and didn't take a thing no melatonin or anything. I feel pretty good today just stiff but I think that's from sitting on a bucket but it was worth it. Today is day 8 and I am very proud that I have made it this far as is my wife. Plan on breaking the gabs in half tonight if the rls starts up. A whole one was to much as it made me feel drunk and off balance and I could find myself liking it to much and don't want that. Im only gonna take it if needed though. I feel so close to having my life back and won't give up now or ever . I hope. Ty  everyone for the support, Sean

I'm 6 months clean from Suboxone.  GABApentin helped a lot for anxiety and sleep.

Sean.....800 mg pills?  That's a really high dose for someone that's never taken it before.  No wonder you felt "strange"...LOL  The normal "starting dose" is 300 mg taken at NIGHT....and then titrating up from there.  But I doubt you risk any physical dependency to them if you only take a total of 4 pills (even if it's every other night).  I used some nervine botanicals like passion flower, lemon balm and valerian root (and some melatonin).

Glad you are getting some sleep......you're doing great!!!

Ty for that and no i was not sick of reading  which is kinda strange for me BC  I'm not a big reader at all, but have been on here reading as much as possible. It seems to help tremendously. All the support here is great and I have also tried my best to encourage others with the experience I have had  as well. I did take that gab last night and I slept almost 7 hrs that was great. I have 3 800 mgs of the gabs left and not gonna take one tonight just to see how I feel.  I have also been taking melatonin so I just try that. I do have to say the gab made me feel a little spaced out and kinda drunk feeling and that definitely scares me BC I have such a addictive personality but I am going to stay clean this x for my kids ,my family, and most for me. I will continue to stay on this site long after I'm clean to also influence others. I feel like I have gained an online family. I love this  place like I said it has helped tremendously. Try, Sean

Because I am a chronic pain patient and also a recovering addict...I would like to clarify a few of the differences between Lyrica/pregabalin and Neurontin/gabapentin.

They are "similar".....but also have some major differences.  They are both medications that need to be titrated UP when you first go on them....  meaning to gradually increase your dose.  Likewise, when you go off of either of them, you must wean yourself DOWN.  There is a difference in a "withdrawal SYNDROME"....and " a withdrawal from an addictive scheduled drug". When you go off of an antidepressant....there is also a withdrawal syndrome..as with most Rx drugs that your body becomes used to taking.

It used to be "assumed" that pregabalin was IDENTICAL...or rather THE generic of Lyrica.  However, Pfizer, the drug company filed a law suit that gives them a patent on Lyrica until 2018.  And while pregabalin does have the same ACTIVE ingredient in it as Lyrica....it is NOT identical....and Pfizer doesn't want a "generic" of their specific formula available right now ($$$)...thus the law suit granting them the patent for 3 more years.

Another MAIN difference if you are an addict, is that Lyrica has a warning to those of us "with a history of drug or alcohol addiction/abuse"....and gabapentin does not.  Gabapentin is NOT a scheduled drug....Lyrica IS.
There are many off label uses for gabapentin now (from spinal cord injuries to addiction withdrawals)....the one I use it for is nerve impingement pain.  I have read many threads here on MH of those that tried to w/draw from Lyrica and wanted NO part of it after getting off my drug salad...lol .. plus they ALL gained a bunch of weight....no thank you.  I went off gabapentin for over a year and a half AFTER I got clean....just to see where my pain levels would be.  I made the personal decision to return to taking it.  I DO believe it helped me during my initial days/weeks/months of withdrawal.

If you aren't sick of reading yet, here's a paragraph I copied and pasted about Lyrica.....and imo, every addict should be aware of the differences between Lyrica and Gabapentin.....if for no other reason so we can help others.  Here ya go....and thanks for reading/listening:

"Lyrica is not the easiest drug to abuse, but it is a controlled substance, meaning that it can be abused and can be addictive to the right people. It is a class V controlled substance though which means that it has the definite potential to be abused and addictive. This is based on studies done around the maximum dosages which showed that some people had feelings of being high or euphoria from the drug. The main uses of Lyrica are to treat the pain from nerve damage and fibromyalgia as well as to prevent seizures. However, it can also help to treat anxiety, an unanticipated side effect, and people can become addicted to it. Large doses also give users a 'feel good' feeling, much like valium, though the reason for this is unknown as the drug does not play on the feel good chemicals in the brain. Lyrica abuse is not incredibly common, simply because your doctor will not prescribe too much at a time, but it can happen and should be watched for."

Ty everyone for the insight. I do not  plan on taking it long term at all, I really only have four.I just need to rest through the night. I have pushed through work all week on maybe 2 hrs a night maybe 3-4 if I was lucky. My wds haven't been really terrible other than that. I was feeling a little anxious earlier but that passed. So im gonna take one after I eat then a hot bath. Will let everyone know how it goes . ty praying for a full night sleep , Sean

I looked this up and did some research. Gabapetin is classified as a anticonvulsant and is said not to be related or work on receptors in the brain like opiates or other narcotics. It is prescribed off label for anxiety, nerve pain, rls, etc. It is not an addictive substance in the case of abuse but you can become physically dependent on it when taken for long periods so good ol' w/d can occur.
I don't think it would be bad if you take it short term.

Isn't gabapentin generic for Lyrica?  I was under the impression that it in itself IS addictive and yes, you can have w/d from it?  Please inform me if this is wrong?

First let me say Welcome. You came to a great place with lots of knowledgable people and awesome support.
From what I understand you cannot withdrawal from gabapetin as its not a narcotic. It does help stop some of the w/ds and can make a difference. I'm sure others will be along with more info than myself just sit tight :)
