I had to detox from Exedrine Migraine OTC  after I self detoxes from Tylenol with codeine that I have been bringing on from Canada for years.  It was the worst four months of headaches I've ever had. My neurologist won't let me near an OTC Tylenol unless I  dying. He convinced my insurance company to give me 24 tabs of Immitrex instead of 9, I get Botox injections and my migraines are in better controls. I am allowed am Oxy or 3 only if I am dying but the OTC detox was worse than anything else.

yep, i've suffered from not only classic migraines but severe chronic daily tension headaches as well as some cluster  headaches for about 20 years

as far as migraines....went through all the OTC stuff....candy....never worked....excedrin migraine?  i might as well suck on a lifesaver, lol

did the imitrex shots for awhile, then they stopped working completely....turned to something else prescribed (can't remember), that stopped eventually working for me, too....now i have relpax, still helps but not always and the problem with all these true migraine meds is that if one doesn't work,  you can take one more, but you can only take 2 in any 24 hour period (and that's a serious warning, believe me, from experience), so when you've gone that route and STILL experience no relief and are still hurting big time, that's when you just want the shot of demerol or whatever to numb the pain....so i do understand....but also strongly believe that narcotics are not the answer for migraines, even though i know the terrible pain they cause

luv & blessings.....and to all who suffer from migraines, sinus related or not, they DO get better as we age and our hormones dissipate....at least the ones that are hormonally related....just a bit of hope :-)

I have suffered from serious migrains most of my life..and have 2 friends that suffered strokes from the..I take imitrex shots..have you tried them..they work awesome but you have to catch it before they get too bad..I will agree that no pain killer I ever took relieved any type of headache..I can't take excedrin either...

Excedrine migraine always works well for me.  But, I would only take one.  It states very clearly that you are only allowed 1 in a 24 hour period.  i swear by it.

I hope you feel better soon.  I know how bad the grains can be.  They can definitely drive one back to the addiction train.

I have to add my 2 cents here.  I too, use to think that anti-inflammatories did nothing to relieve my pain.  It wasn't until I totally got off of the opiates and saw that they could relieve the pain.

I also had this same sinus surgery in 2004.  To be totally honest- the pain was nothing for this surgery. I think  I only needed the pain meds about 3 days and 6 hours apart curbed the pain I did have.  It was a bloody mess though.  I had more anxiety than anything because of the stints in my nostrils and the packing.  The real pain comes for only about 5 seconds when they remove that packing.  On that day, take one dose of the pain med about 30 minutes before you have that packing removed.

Since having this surgery, I have had very few of these sinus pressure headaches.. But I do stay on my allergy meds all year long. It is important that you get tested for allergies before you have this surgery.  I also had a deviated septum from a broken nose in my teens that didn't heal correctly.

Please also check into chemical sensitivity.  I am one of those people too that can get a strong sinus like headache from certain scents:  Inscense at church, certain candle scents, fresh flowers with the pollen still attached  and certain musk perfumes.  All these scents make me nauseaus and have a horrible headache with facial pressure pain mimicking a migraine.  If I think I will exposed to these scents (like during church holidays) I either try to avoid it or prepare myself with a steroid nasal spray Rx by doctor.

The pain from the above sometimes did feel strong enough to make you want a narcotic pain med but it is always better to find out what is causing the pain so you don't get the pain to begin with.

Hope this makes sense.

More info makes much difference in the responses a person will receive. You obviously have an abnormal condition, which I hope you get treatment for soon. I know I came across a bit harshly yesterday, but with the info received, it seemed appropriate. Please accept my apologies for that. Most of us are conditioned to say "no" to opiate use, unless it is very extreme. After all, we all are trying to stay, and keep each other from using.

I know I will be fine andwont think about them what so ever....But no none of this is an excuse or I wouldnt have posted with questions...

I cant take excedrin, I have chronic migraines, I used to see a neurologist, I take relpax a really strong migraine medication..nothing over the counter works for me to be honest, my whole family is like that, always need strong, high doses for anything, anti-inflamatories for colds. when I got my teeth pulled I had to get 1,000mg of penicillin, trust me if i could take excedrin i would, but it does nothing... thank you for writing back to me!

no it wasnt an excuse to take it at all, i was supposed to get surgery on my nasal cavities bc they are so narrow that the mucus doesnt drain it sits right in my nasal passages, and when that happens sometimes it turns into a migraine. TRUST ME I dont want to take percocet its not even my drug of choice I hate it. I have taken a percocet this morning because I couldnt lift my head up it hurt so bad.

I have been taking benadryl sinus, EXTRA STRENGTH, Zicam nasal spray, motrin 800's, claritin, it doesnt do anything thats the problem, I took a percocet yesterday and im fine today, no cravings no nothing, i have my head straight, but I really am in pain and my doc did say it was sinusitis, the pain is so unbearable I want to scream, didnt have enough money for the surgery at the time so I delt with it..But for all of you I promise its not because I WANT them, I HATE them, They make me sick to my stomach I just live a life of migraines and headaches and sometimes there comes a point to where u just need SOME relief. thank you all for your posts I appreciate it, I will get into see the doc for a script of something for this sinus ****! ive been so good with pills, ETC. I am proud of myself to say im clean, in a way...with 3 perks this weekend, but TRUST ME mentally I dont even care about them like most people would, im a weird addict I guess LOL..I dunno how to explain it... But I take confidence knowing I dont need them or want them, I really have a good mind set with this..trust me.

Also I didnt post to tell people to tell me to take a percocet, that kind of hurt a lot, I can get pills anywhere anytime, but I will not go that route ever again. Im sorry it came off like that. Im doing great other wise!!

Thanks Worried!! =]
I did do a fast taper...my first day was 12mgs of Subutex..then after the 10 days...of the detox period...he gave me some more...and told me just to take one 2mg pill in the am, and thats it...then go down to a half, which is 1mg in the am...and then cut that half in half, and take that which I did for one day...and now IM done. I didnt want to trade one pill for another...
My legs bother me somewhat tonight, but he gave me a sample pack for RLS but I havent taken it. I should cuz when I get to be feeling uncomforable...its just my legs, and  I get warm...but its nothing I cant handle...and who knows it might be all in my head. I only feel different at night with my legs...so who knows. I didnt want to get hooked on Subutex....I was only on the 2mg tabs during this detox time and it was fast...
I do still have some left...just dont want to take them, I think i have 6 more and dont want them either! Im just ready to stop everything I guess....maybe its stupid not to finish the 6 i have left....but I dont want to get hooked!!

Nothing too much to add other than that short time into recovery...i think u know it is not like a primo idea or u would not have posted it...when i feel confident about my decisions i do not ask for other peples opinions...so in light of the fact that it bothered u enought to post about...i would say...no it is not a good idea

pdidddy...u sure did a short detox off the sub ...or maybe time just goes by so fast...u did great...glad 4 u!

I understand what you all are saying about how it may seem to you she is looking for an excuse to use...and that just may be the case here. I dont know, only she does. But this reminds me of a conversation me and my hubby JUST had. I was telling him how its gonna suck for me if I ever have a root canal, something **knock on wood** happen to me, where I NEED a narcotic pain med....just cuz im an addict to Hydro, and over 3 weeks clean...why should I have to suffer in pain and NOT be able to take something to treat REAL REAL pain??? I truly believe what Im about to say, whether right or wrong...
I believe that if your an addict, and your 150% ready to quit and stay clean...you shouldnt have to suffer in pain...you know where the ABUSE of pain meds, or LONG TERM pain management has taken all of us. NOWHERE...BUT HELL!! I think if you learn to hate the pills, and face them knowing you need them maybe for whatever reason medically...you should ALREADY KNOW BETTER then to abuse them, or LET yourself get hooked again. Do i think I should never be allowed an opiate again in my LIFE? NO! If I ever am in some SERIOUS medical issue...and HAVE HAVE to take them as prescribed or as needed...so Im not SUFFERING in pain...yes, I know i am strong enough to know better..and I can  say this cuz I have 120 of Hydros 10/325 up in my cabinet...and dont even care!!! Im getting rid of them on Tuesday...not because I "cant have them in the house"....but I dont WANT them in my house! I just think if your 100 percent into your recovery...you should just not want them, or let them call out to you....thats just my opinion. Your mind controls everything...and if your DONE abusing...then your just done. Dont suffer in pain...just cuz your an addict. Just HAVE CONTROL...and if your serious about recovery....you can do it. I dont know so much about taking opitates soooo early in your recovery though...not such a great idea, no...but later in recovery....I dont see a problem with it. Just KNOW better then to let yourself get caught up in that life of hell again. I opened my bottle when they got here, and only did that to FACE my demon! I wanted to let them know I was better then them...they didnt have ME anymore...I had THEM and was thinkin to myself...WHAT WERE YOU THINKIN? You let THESE take control over YOU?? That was my way of sayin goodbye to them..lol. I have noooo urge at all..and am very proud of myself.
I am off of my Subutex....and feel great! Things are great...only cuz I am 100% devoted to my recovery...and this divorce from Norcos. =]]

I avoided the REALLY bad sinus problems by taking Allegra (fexofanadine).  I already take it in the summer for allergies so when I quit CT in January. I just took some to deal with my sinuses.  Worked great.  Claratin would probably help.  Or try benadryl and feel better but groggy.  There are lots of ways to go after sinus problems....

Unless you're really looking for an excuse to get back on opiats.  Sorry but I gotta say it.

Opiatea are pain killers. They cure nothing. They don't relieve sinus problems. And it is allergy season. Take if you want, the choice is yours. Just don't blame that decision on a lame  headache / sinus problem excuse. Wake up.

ITA with the others, youre just looking for a reason to use. Not saying you are not in true pain, but the medicine you need for this is not an opiate. You need a good decongestant/allergy medicine and maybe some ibuprofin or regular tylenol. Hot steam inhalations too.  I have bad sinuses too and honestly percs and vikes sometimes made my sinus headaches WORSE. I would get a horrible headache FROM those pills.
So i would suggest getting some Robitussin PE or something like that. Hope you feel better soon.

I think it might sound a little harsh if you take statements or words like 'justifying' to mean you are consciously being manipulative or seeking approval to use an opiate. I think it's more a mixture of recognizing you have a real problem and knowing a solution to that problem that has worked for you in the past... just have to think it through though and take into account the history off having an addiction and if the addiction itself is possibly causing the problem in the first place...

...this IS allergy season.  MAybe you need to be tested for allergies or seen for a sinus infection.  Or try OTC Claritan with a couple tylenols.

But do not take an opiate for this.

I have to agree, it sounds like u are finding any reason to take...I have bad sinisus have had 2 surgery's on them and the pain gets terriable and perks or oxy's dont really help that kind of pain...I am sorry hon, but it will set you back in my opinion...a friend told me about excedrine migraine and i tried it and it works pretty good..put ice packs on your face and dont be bending up and down but dont just lay down flat either, it shouldn't last more then a few days for infection to start feeling better or migraine either. Thats my opinion anyway..
good luck to you i know its a *****.
hugs

I agree that sinus problems are also a symptom of w/d.  I had them and it's something I had to really tough out.  I had the headache and the pressure changes in my head and my face, also the drainage made me vomit.  It takes 6 to 8 weeks to get through it, but excedrin does really help, or maybe even something that attacks the pressure problem, like a otc sinus med.  If it gets worse ask your doctor if he can help you.

percs are stronger then hydros. Sounds like your trying to justify taking a opiate. I would suggest take some sudafed cold and sinus, hell even try some dayquil, but plz dont take a painkiller. Dim the lights are get some sunglasses so the migraine doesnt kill your head and just try to tuff it out.

The first thing I think is this: during withdrawal I had crazy sinus problems (including sneezing even when there was no congestion). This is usually  from the alteration to histamine and inflammatory processes that opiates create. The problem with my sinuses disappeared completely about 2 months out.

I personally would look at the sinus problems as a part of withdrawal (unless diagnosed as something else by a doctor)... and using an opiate after detoxing to treat a withdrawal symptom just won't work unless you want to continue their use indefinitely.
