Heroin addiction

I'm 22 years old and I need help getting off dope. I've been on and off since I was 15. But I can't stay away.

IBKleen's advice is spot on honey.   Being a heroin addict is going to lead to 1 of 2 places:  jail or death.

I'm going to guess that most if not all of the folks you hang out with are also drug users or drinkers.     You're gonna have to change that.   It's a tough one to swallow, but truthfully, if you really want a sober, happy life, then EVERYTHING has to change.   That means not associating with anyone who does drugs---even if it means losing your best friend(s).

Can you get into a rehab or detox facility? Do you work?  Do you parents know?

I know..lots of questions, but bear with me, as I try to help.   Do you have a doctor you can talk to?    If so, if you have ANY sort of relationship with your primary care doctor or ob-gyn, tell them you want help.

Quitting the drug is one thing; staying clean is the real challenge.   Heroin is a pain-killer, and at your age, I'm guessing its emotional pain you're trying to wipe out.   When you stop using, all those feelings---some might be downright awful---are going to come rushing back at you, and you're going to need a way to cope that doesn't involve running to smack.

Consider going to an N/A meeting.  You don't have to be sober to go, all that is required is the DESIRE to stop.

Good luck honey.  I'm old enough to be your mom, and trust me this is the RIGHT THING TO DO.   You're at a fork in the road.  Take the correct one, the clean one, even if it means you're going to feel like crap and go through a lot of difficult times/emotions for a while.     Read that last sentence again.    Getting clean is NOT going to easy or happen quickly, but at the rate you're going, your life is going to get much worse and sooner than you think.

Big hugs sweetie.  Stay here, tell us your life story....we really do care.

Hi & Welcome,

Heroin is my DOC and I spent way too many years chasing that high. The first thing to do is admit you have a problem and you did that so you are headed in the right direction. The next thing you need to do is stop. But that is a hard one. You need too want it so bad that you just do it. The first week stinks but it is doable. You need to cut off all sources and "friends" who you could get anything from and pick a date to stop. We can support you and give you suggestions to try and make the withdrawal easier.

You are young honey. Do it now before you throw your life away or the drug takes your life.
