Does the Thomas Recipe really work?

My 23 year old son will have to detox for the 4th time after being in the hospital and put back on pain meds.  He will probably have to have his tonsils out soon and will need pain meds for that but detox is coming. Here we go again.  He is terrified of the detox pain which I understand.   I have seen the Thomas Recipe and it sounds promising.  I just would like to hear from those of you who have tried it.  His family would like to support him in any way that we can.  Thanks for any help and God bless all of you that are going through this.

Thanks for the good information.  We have used suboxone as well and would like to not go back on it if we can avoid it.  He get's bad migraines when he is on it.  It is an option if needed though.  It is so consuming.  It is like your whole life revolves around the opiates and how to avoid the horrible withdrawal.  Congrats on your up coming one year.  I don't think people realize what these meds do to a persons life and to those around them.  I have hope and I know that we will take one day at a time and continue to keep the faith that we will conquer this.  All the best.

he would start at a low dose to see how he handles it probably 2-4mgs, some people are sensitive and get very nausea and stamch cramps from it but its such a strong mixed opiate agonists(like heroin, methadone, oxycodone, hydrocodone, etc.)/antagonist(naltrexone, narcan, drugs used in overdoses and blocking of opiates). i know suboxone has saved a lot of lives, and alot of doctors can prescribe it, all they ahve to take is a calss to be certified which is a day long, its very easy to get the capability to prescribe it. and with the tonsils out the suboxone should work great for the paina longw tih some ibuprofen, the suboxone, chemical name buprenorphine) is actaully 25-40% stronger on a mg to mg basis than morphine. so its strong, but it doestn give him a high, itmakes him feel normal, good, and productive, and it blocks any other opiate for around a week if he stopped taking it. it also ahs areally long half-life averaging around 37 hrs. so it mnakes him comfortable for a couple of daysd at a time. my addiction was pretty bad so i ended up on the max. dose of suboxone at 32mgs a day. any higher and the antagonist side comes out isntead of the agonist side. you go into withdrawals the higher you go. the ideal dose is low seeinga s you get the most agonist and good effects from it. im sorry this is so long, but i reallywould love and im sure you do too want to see your son get well and stop using any opiate at all. one warning suboxone cant just be stopped, like other opiates or benzodiazepines, otherwise he will go into a long withdrawal that last longer tahna  month it can be very rough, so how you get off of it is slowly taper downa mg or 2 at a time hopefully he would only need 4-8mgs day and it would be extemely easy to get off of. and no its not trading one addiction for another, its rarely abused, and if someone who has never taken any opaites before would get a mild high but thats all, but the actual pain killing properties are veyr proficient. if you have any queationsa bout anything at all let me know anytime, i wish you, your family, and especially your son the best of luck he is doing the best thing he could do for his life by getting off of opiates, i saw the destruction i caused my family and im 22 and luckily iw as young enough to catch it then and get help. nov 3 will be one eyar for me since i went into detox, it does work-christos

i and many others i know have tried, it didnt work for me, but for some it did. alot of the people above highly recommended it. I would try it, It is always safest to do it in a supervised medical detox, which after hundreds of times trying every method on my own like the thomas recipe, tramadol to replace the heroin/oxycontin,clonidine and benzos(valium, xanax, ativan) at home, but i had to finally come to the realization that i needed help and i couldnt do it on my own. it saved my life. if his addiction was to codeine or vicodin and not that severe the thomas recipe will work great, but if it is a more severe addiction where you are controlled completely by opiates and you cant stop and you are taking massive doses multiple times a day then go to a good medical detox where for one day hell have to go into withdrawal and they will make him somewhat comfortable by giving him  clonidine(which hleps a ton with the sweat, chills, insomnia, and restlessness), a benzodiazepine(usually lorazepam, valium, or xanax, which is very crucial because it helps a ton with the extreme anxiety, muscle spasms, aches and relaxes you and helps the insomnia, and helps somewhat with improving your mood), then some OTC immodium for the nasty diarrhea, some anti-nausea medicine, and some ambien striclty at night for sleep. if he eats good meals and drinks, he can then start after its been at least 24  hrs since last taking any opiates and is in moderate withdrawals then he could start on suboxone treatment, it works wonders. you do have to be in mild to moderate withdrawa; when starting on it, unless you want to get extremely sick because its so strong it will compete with the opiates still in his system and push them off the receptors and put him into instant withdrawals its horrible, but if hes in withdrawals then if he takes for two days hell feel great motivated, no cravings, and no withdrawal whats so ever.-contnued on the next post-
