Feeling alone.

Has anyone been on methadone for over a decade? I've been on this for 12 years and my father asked me,are you going to live like this forever? It hit me so hard cuz I never thought about it.
During those 11 years I went up and down a lot,(highest dose was 80mgs) but managed to get myself down to 13 mgs by new years eve 2011. Then started a silly rapid detox and decreased 13 mgs down to 11mgs for one week. Then 11mgs down to 8.5mgs the next. I got so sick. Felt like my heart almost gave up on me giving me random chest pains. So I had to slow down. I went only 1mg each week til I got to 5.5mgs, & stayed on that for 10 days as I felt the rapid detox was catching up to me. Today is only day one and I'm sending myself into a panic attack! I do have clonidine and Diazapam and some lopermide just in case. Has any body out there been on methadone for over a decade and made it? Are the withdrawals longer than others who has been on it like 3 or 4 years? Will it be harder on people who've been on it too long? Is it too late?

Hi xlinzxxxox.
I never ever thought I would ever be clean. I just thought that this is how my life is.  Until my father hit me with a heart wrenching question. 'Are you going to live on this forever'? It was like a 'slap' wake up call.  I'm now on day 12. I get my good and bad days. Just when I thought it's gone, it came back the next day. But I can really feel that even when it does comes back, it's not as bad as the last. Little by little it's coming off in layers. I have been holding on to all the lovely people on this site, they were the only ones that understand and directed me what to do to help speed up my recovery. I know you can do this. ... but you must want to do it, when you're fed up, you want your life back bad enough.  You'll know you're ready to stop.
The best decision I made was finding this site while having a panic attack. I received so much love and support from these guys I won't stop talking about it.
I know you can do this!  You're sis will already know how to help you through it when you're ready.  I didn't think I could do it. But I'm doing it! So can you!
All the best. Xx

Thank you so much Debbie.
I wish I could just give u a big hug. You were the first to step in and directed me to what I needed to do. And for that it, I believe it has sped up my recovery. I seriously don't believe in recovering in 7 days, but with your love support and guidance, I believe I will be myself again in 2 weeks. Otherwise it could have been months from just lying around doing nothing.
Thank you so much.
Catt.

Kudos on 10 days clean. You really are doing wonderful.
I believe because of your long, slow taper and being on the lose dose
Before you jumped was key.
Good for you.
You are clean my friend. You have given yourself and your family a beautiful gift called recovery.
So, so proud of you.
Keep on keepin on.
Debbie

Hi guys.
Day 10 and I can't believe how I'm feeling. Besides some back pain because I slept like a prawn.  And the occasional yawning. (Yawns again). Oh and I'm still taking Imodium from taking the protein shakes and vitamins, which does helps but doesn't stop the runs. Drinking Gatorade like my life depends on it every day. And I am grateful to you guys for giving me the advice I so desperately needed. The first 5/ 6 days was the darkest days and nights of my life. But you guys have shown me where the light is and thank god I followed it. I can honestly say that the energy crash is minimal. I was hoping for the best but expecting the worst. I am depressed but it's not too bad. I don't have any motivation to do anything but when my dad comes home from work I'm like a little girl again....I'm happy! High on life! I hope you guys realize just how many lives you guys have turned around. I am among one of those who will remember this for ever. And when ever I'm feeling down, all I have to do is think of you guys.
VICourageous, thank you for your kind words. I'm sorry u had to suffer so much. You are so strong to do such a CT on all three! I salute you! ☺

Hi..
I have been on & off here so I missed this post.
I came off of a 12yrs runner on the Methadone myself in 2012. I was 56 and now 58. I was way up and then down and then up. As soon as the Dr would only give me 30mg I started to snort it with Adderral I bought from the streets. I am a old time user off & on from the 60s on up and this was like legal Crank for me.(Dumb) I then took a Benzo at night to come down. In 2012 I went c/t from all 3 and it was a long hard detox for me. I Do know it had alot to do with the Benzo. Before the Dones I was on oxy/hydos and it was a different detox in some ways. I got lucky this time and only had the Anxiety on the Moon and no sleep for months. The physical just came off in layers very slowly. The energy crash was hard and long. After a couple of yrs my Brain finally balanced back or flipped back over. In a more scientific way of studying Addiction, is that many Substances do unbalance many of the Transmitters, Hormones and Chems..The Receptors take time to unplug.

On the GOOD side here is that it sounds like YOU are going to be LUCKY and Bounce back quick. You were on a low dose which helped in the end.Just take it day by day and know you might experience some strange mental waves, but this all will smooth out. Get out and get that Support. I have said on here for so long, that the detox is the easy part..(hard yes) but it is working on staying clean that takes the cake. We have so many old behaviors that have to change. Even if we touch one pill the Pleasure part of the Brain will remember the pleasure and off we go to 2-3-4 and 100. They call this playing the tape back at the meetings. Addiction is a very serious Brain disease that can not be cured, but it can be arrested at some point. Recovery is a on going thing. I do wish you the best and just make sure you keep drinking tons of water to keep hydrated. You got some great info above on what to take, but I would like to add the Lemon water with a small dash of sea salt..This too will help. Be Good, Be Safe and just go with it. You will see that the grass can be greener on the other side.
Bless
